    clicker tension

My buddy got some new tyrnos 20's to billfish with.. great reels, i think, but the problem is the clicker has too much tension on it. you cant get a naked bait out without physically pulling line off the reel, which is a complete PITA. forget about dropping back to a fish....Is there anyway to adjust this?

I have the same problem on a tiagra 30w as well. i know the clicker mechanisims opperate under two different priciples but perhaps someone has an idea on how to lighten up the pressure of the clicker on one or the other.

If you are using the reels for bill fishing especially drop backs the clickers should be dis-engaged...problem solved. You need complete freespool, no clicker, no drag.

You you fed him in free spool, then push the drag up. still no clicker.

Clickers are for tuna trolling, not billfish

    it holds the bait

the cliker hold the bait with just enough tension so when the fish grabs it runs but will not run out w/out a fish. We always fish with new anglers so the clicker also aids in preventing backlash. I can do it w/out the clicker but 50% of the anglers I fish with cant and i don't want to be the only guy that can hook a fish. The tension is just fine on a tld or a penn 30w (old school) to do this. The other issue is the abilty to let a bait run out using a cliker so there is no backlash while you do someting else. cant do it with a tyrnos on a naked bait and cant do it with a tiagra even with a islander on it while meat fishing, (we don't use the tiagra for bills). If i had a professional crew and each one was holding one rod the whole time waiting for a bite it would be differnet but thats far from my MO. Thus my need to adjust the tension if possible.
