Chaos Rods Comment/Questions

The short version is I ordered 4 rods from Chaos at the NYC boat show back on December 13, 2008. Offshore rods w/ calstar blanks. Custom but nothing too intricate. At the time the guy who I ordered them from said he's most likely have them by the AC show where I'd pick them up. Sure enough they weren't ready. That was Februray, but I was told they'd be done by March the latest. March rolled around and after MANY phone calls not answered or returned and emails not returned, I finally got one back asking me to wait for April 1st the absolute latest. Here we are in late April, no rods! I've tried to call (message saying they are on the phone) and email more then 20x with just an auto response claiming they are busy filling holiday orders. I gave them half the deposit at the boat show on a credit card. Amex was decent enough to investigate this for me even though its been more then 60 days since the purchase was made.

Conclusion. 1) I would not recommend or EVER buy another product from Chaos Rods! I recommend everyone and anyone on this board be very careful placing an order with them or on their web site. 2) Are they out of business? Web site is up and phone message (a joke) says they are on the other line helping customers (mail box full. . .my messages probably). 3) I might be out the cash I put down because its been more then 60 days since the purchase, if anyone on this board knows these clowns please send them my way. They need to cancel this order and settle up. If they went under they need to return the deposit because last I heard they are still making the boat show rounds just not doing right by the customer. 4) Because of their unbelievably bad customer service (recession I add) and the absurd delay, I have gone elsewhere for my rods and do not want/need their rods at this or any other point.

Just got world from a local dealer that they were dropping them and that the company is in bad shape.

If I were you I would have amex get invloved and scrap the deal. From what is sounded like I think they might be done.

Sad I have a few of there rod and they have done me well and would have recommended them before talking to sunset.

i have several and they are hard to deal with but always come through....good product....get the guys cell phone and he answers every time....your choice ....good value for the money..

Had the same problem last year at AC show I bought and payed for about $400 in items and around April started to worry. After numerous calls finally received items about may.
Also they charged me more at the show for lures than if I ordered on line so during 1 of my phone calls made them aware of this and gave them a chance to make right by throwing in extra lure or something but it never happened.So this year at AC show I just walked right past booth and made a point to shop local businesses.
It's a shame because their Rainbow squid mini pro jet black/purple daisey is killer on yellow and longfin.

sorry to hear that.
i have had a few guys here, saying the same thing about them..
i really havent heard what happened with them.
sometimes there is a delay in getting someting done..
i can understand that, as it happens with me at times.

Appreciate the responses men. I too have a few of their rods. Have ZERO complaints about them. Have served me well in the past. Mainly the reason I decided to pick up a few more.

At this point they've simply vanished. With my deposit. CC company (amex) was little help initially telling me I'd missed the 60 day window. Good info for the future. Don't give anyone more then 60 days to complete an order. But after some wrangling on the phone and a supervisor they are investigating the situation and crediting me the charge. I'll keep you posted on where it goes but at this point, I'd find satisfaction with the clowns at choas resurfacing, paying back amex and everyone moving on with their lives. Either way I warn anyone and everyone on this board do not deal with these guys. Once a solid rod builder now basically a scam.

We fish their rods and love them. I think they are pretty much done though. We went to drop of some of our rods to have some scratches repaired and the building was locked up. We will keep calling them and our messages are also in their recorder.

P.S. They are not junk!! They are very good rods. They just didn't make it. At least right now.
