    Braided line question

I know many people have used braided line on a conventional or casting reel. But how many have used it on spinning on reels. I have heard that the braid can be hell on the guides but don't know how much of it is ture. I just put braid on one of my cheaper spinning rods and am planning on testing it out but would like some opinions incase it could cause damage.

I tried searching but didn't find anything useful about braids on the board, if there is a post I missed please point me in the right direction.

This is true for early braids made when it was first introduced many years ago. These early braided lines had open spots in the braid. Debris such as sand, salt, etc. would get into these open spots and this is what cut guides. It wasn't the braided line itself. This has since been solved with almost everyone sealing the braid with some type of slick surface. This eliminates debris from entering inside the braided line and in turn cutting your guides.

As for using it on spinning reels---no problem what so ever. Make sure you put it on TIGHT. If you can put it on wet, the line will go on tighter and pack better, resulting in better casting and better performance. This will also eliminate the braid wanting to "cut" into itself when it's under pressure (fighting fish and he is pulling drag).

All in all, you will be just fine with the braid. Once you use it, you'll never go back to monofilament. There are many types of braid out there, but Power Pro is my choice and has been for 8 years.

Braid on your light tackle wont be a problem.

I run Power Pro on my Penn Slammer 560's and have never had an issue. The braid is great stuff and we have had great success with it.

I have experienced some bleeding from the Red Power Pro and quickly went back to the Moss green.

    Hope this helps you out.

There are some good braids available now, that work well for both light and heavy spinning gear. 99.9% of jigging with spinners is done using braid.

Some good brands are Jerry Brown and Tufline.

with most of the better guides you should have no problem with braid
i have seen bass guys groove guides or tips using mono

sometimes you will get sand or debris in line the briaded line, that may be abrasive to some guides..

I have braid on all of my spinners- you'll find that it is awesome for casting and you'll get better distances as there is no memory like with mono.

In addition to others' advice, I would add that you should be careful not to overfill the spool- if you do you'll end up with some pretty nice birds nests in your line which will lead to hours of entertainment....for your friends as they all laugh at you

That is because spectra really can't be died. They try to use colored coatings, but in reality white is best. It is also the most supple of all colors, because there is not hard waxy color coating.
