I have recently installed a built- in tackle box on my boat . I was advised that even though most of my plugs are incased in Plano plastic drawers , the salt water air will rust out my hooks in short order. Does anyone have any experience with this problem ? It does not make sense that plugs sealed in plastic cases would be particularly vulnerable but I could use some feedback from anyone who has a similar set up .
I keep my lures on my boat from April to November. I get very little rusting. You should be fine. A fresh water rinse back at the dock goes a long way.
There are "anti rust" strips that you can buy and put a few inside the tackle boxes to keep the rust away from the plug hooks. I've read before that these work well, but I don't remember the brand names.
Zerust Plastabs, they come in all our lure, spreader and rigging bags. I have thousands of them .75" square tab covers 2' x 2' space. We are a dealer for ZeRust.
