The Penn Slammers are tough SOB's... I have the 260's for inshore red/trout chasing and have a couple 560's which have been hammered on for light offshore stuff (snapper, mahi, etc). Great reels.
I've got this years model of a Shimano Stradic 4000 and its a truly great reel. Super smooth, 20lbs drag(not that youd use that much on a reel this size anyway, but shows what the reel is capable of). Have landed some large kingfish with it and it doesn't miss a beat
What are you fishing for? Right now their are so many reels to choose from it makes your head spin.
That said, I have a pair of Diawa BG series reels that have to be close to 20 years old. They still do the job bailing dolphin, casting to stripers, bluefish etc. and drifting for flounder and croakers. I know that last year they each caught several dozen bailers and quite a few gaffers.
And BTW the St. Croix rods they are on are also 20 years old.
