I have an issue that I need your expert help on. The facts of the case. Was out fishing this weekend and was catching a lot of Snapper and B-linners. I got a nice hit on a cigar minnow and the fight was on. Had a good indication that it was a very nice snapper on the other end. As I was reeling in the fish my reel broke. I believe that the drag system went out. As long as I held on to the handel I could bring in line. Let go and it was like it was in free spool. So, I finally got this fish to the boat. That is a head of a very nice snapper. Yes, it was my friends the Cudas and they came to dinner.
The Questions.
1. The reel was a Penn 320 GT (Do I have the reel repaired) Reel was given to me and is about 5 years old.
2. Buy another reel and if so: What is the best bottom reel and for someone on a limited budget. I have a Roddy Hunter Rod model number H65FG, length 61/2, line wgt 40-60lb.
The other option at this point and time is bottom fish with my TLD 25 that is on a Billfisher SSU2040C-6, 20-40 line wgt. Do not get me wrong I love my TLD 25 but I have come to the conclusion that it does not have enough drag to pull the s of the bottom. Again, i appreciate everyone advise on this. Still learning this offshore fishing thing, but I know that I am in !!
Hello and good morning....sounds like the spool spindle is frozen to the pinion. You could tell right away if you took the right side plate assy. off and the spool came along with it.If not,you may have rust or corrosion in your drag system which means it should be changed out.If you have any trouble with the repair, please give us a call or you could simply send it in for service. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Take care.....Tom
