Should I put finish all over the guide rings and rollers? I am sure that will help preserve the line and ring material as well.

I have some older Gold plated Fuji SIC guides that have had issues of turning green, from corrosion this wll help reverse the problem as well!

    Thanks For Sharing Your Knowledge

I figured out why they are Armbreaker rods because of the extra weight added by all the finish on the rod.

CCrods that is a good point about the gold Fuji guides

The panel of experts have spoken

I posted this thread in regards to a video on marbling on here I watched, which at the end said there was no benefits from marbling a rod and I did not agree with that. The technique is questionable also.

I personally think That there are very good arguments to both sides. Arm b most likely has his technique down to an art as demonstrated in pics of his work, the rest of you guys most likely build great rods and have awesome thread work, to each his own.
I build my own rods and a few for friends, been doing for 14-15 years, my thread art is ok, so far my rods have held up, some have cracked, some turn white when they get wet. Some the thread colors bleached out. Of course mine are in charter service and see some incredable heat so basically the are abused and put away wet, but not one of them has ever failed.
AB has a good marketing plan, to call BS come on guys, he does give some tips, I like the one about the alcohol for cleaning the rod guides.
Keven does some awesome abalone work, I tried that once and will do so again on the next 5 rods I build.
    Just be cool.

Adding pigment to epoxy is the only way to make it 100% UV protected.

    Build on.

Is that true? Flexcoat, B&D, Amtack and others all sell a UV finish thats clear/no pigment.
As for the weight of the finish arguement, it's valid. Epoxy is chemically cured, thus the same weight dry as wet. Probably a 1/2oz to coat a rod. Too much weight? some rods yes, some no.
Here's a little tip on FUJI, I know you all use their guides, but the fact is, their stainless steel isnt very stainless! If you can live with the rusted guide feet, why worry about the rest of the rod?
I agree, when you hear guys bragging it makes you not want to log in.

Those and most are UV resistant. Some of the newer breed cylcloaliphatic's are close but still not 100%.

Spar urethane is highly protective but thats because it has a yellow tint from the start.

And once you take them out fishing in the sun, they turn yellow.

THat's true of all guides, except Fuji Titanium & AMtak Titans. Maybe the Perfections don't rust, they just turna little green and potentially groove.
