    BahamaRod Pics

I see quite a bit of talent on this rod building page, I have been lurking around for a couple of weeks and have been impressed with the results I see here, congrats to all!

Here's a few pics of the rods I build, been doing it for a couple of years now here in the Bahamas and have sold them all to happy customers!

I prefer the oyster shell to the paua but that is just me, I have done paua rods too but have no good photos of them. I still use the crack method as I have not found it possible to bend the paua without the cracks so as to get it under the guides, the further up the rod you go the more radical the curvature and less likely to do it uncracked I find. Still, they are not too noticable I think and so far no complaints from customers.

Absolutely stunning work Islandshark! On the first pic, the overwraps look interesting- are they just a metallic thread? In the pic it looks like they almost have a sheen to them.

Again, beautiful work thanks for sharing!

    Great stuff

It all looks better than anything you usually see. Show some more.
I have no experience with the Alvboline, or whatever it is under the guide. I see a few other guys with similar material on rods, different colors. You cant beat that look! Kevin Bogan

Thanks, that blure sheen is from a particular additive, not a thread. In direct sunlight it explodes off the rod in a shower of sapphire, please forgive me if I do not reveal exactly what it is as that is one of my trade secrets......

purple paua - sorry for the crummy picture

    Alan,
No harm no foul on telling us your trade secret- I'd be hesitant to let that secret out too. If it looks that good in a picture, I can only imagine how good it looks in person.

Thanks again for sharing with us!

Pretty work there. The shell looks great. I don't care if it is oyster, abalone, or just plain old rock - it looks great.

Come off the secrets. There has been a tremendous movement toward sharing on this board, something that isn't done on others. If you do some digging, you'll see a better method on a "non-cracking" method to do the shell, shared for free.

Rod building has a small following and the more that share the hobby/business, the more business for all!!

Beautiful work, and I, along with others look forward to hopefully learning about your "secret"
