Avet Quad T-RX 30w worth it?

    Hello,
I've become a fishaholic as of late and quickly moved from a penn captiva 5000 on a M rod to a penn 950ssm on a MH rod but I am now thinking about getting the Avet Quad T-RX 30W for the bigger fishing.

my current set up is a Penn 950SSM with 30lbs momoi's diamond line on a 6' MH shakesphere ugly stick. heading to the bait shop after work to maybe put 50lbs on it instead.

I live in Sarasota, Florida which is on the gulf coast a bit south of Tampa. the only fishing I do is every weekend I go out on my friends 16ft jon boat and we hit up the "sarasota bay" which is a inlet since his girlfriend doesn't like big waves. But we have managed to go out in the gulf a few times trolling for grouper.

Now with that said I am wondering if my current setup is enough (I am thinking it is from the advice friends have already given me) or should i go for this bad boy and not have a doubt in my mind about losing a fish and it gets on my hook. (yes i know a reel alone will not make me catch fish)

Does anyone have this reel or has used it and can give me there insight on it?

I am not worried about the $750 price tag.

I just am tired of my line snapping on fish after long fights (yes i know it takes skill too, but this reel will surely help)

anyways thanks in advance for the help,

    Bry

The avets are the bomb!! I have not used any of the quads but if they are anything like their regular reels you will not be disappointed. I think now they have got it together. Go for it. Stimulate the economy.

    You'd probably just laugh
Not to steer you away from additional hardware but you could prob get away with 400-450yrds of 80lb braid line and catch just about anything within reason. I run a 760slammer with 65lb tuf xp and can easily boat 9ft blue sharks, friend does the same with his 850ssm with 80lb suffix.

Better yet get the avet and load the penn up with braid and run them both!

Unless your goliath grouper fishing, which you can't safely do on a jon boat, an Avet quad is overkill, it has more drag then you can handle from that boat unless you want to be towed for miles. I would buy a regular Avet 30W, lighter in weight which makes it easier on the angler, and it is cheaper. Go with 80lb Jerry Brown hollowcore and 80-100lb momoi hi catch leader, I have 80JB and 80 momoi on my Avet 30W, get about 550yrds of line on it. I've fished them at 45lb of drag with big bluefin on, drags are great, had them 3 seasons now, never a problem. The wider body of the quad to me is awkward, so unless you really need the added drag, it is not worth it. Only guys chasing big brute fish really can use them to their advantage, otherwise the added weight will just wear you out quicker, and the wider a reel gets the more "roll" it gets when being reeled in, narrower reels are easier to manage, especially from a belt. Also, what kind of rod are you going to use, a reel that class with 50-80lb line needs a heavier rod, rated for 50-100lb line.

I love my avet's, all I fish now, but the quad seems overkill for any fishing your currently doing. Save your money and buy a second rod and reel instead, 2 rods and reels catch more then 1

I have to agree with gradyfish265 I have 2 regular avet 50w and and love them caught some very nice bft this past season on them so I sold my 4 shimano 30w and just bought 4 of the regular avet 30w for this season so I think I would save the extra coin and get the regular ones and hook them up on some nice rods

    Avet Reels

I have the Avet HXMC reels and they are small, strong, and just flat out sick reels. The drags are better than most larger reels and yet they have cast control if you need to go to pitching baits on a breaking school or tuna. The owner of AVET had his son using the HXMC and he caught a 400lb+ fish down at their fishing business and he is only 13yrs old or so. Easy to use and strong as an ox with compact size. I have mine with 450yrds or 50lb power pro and 300yrds 40lb high vis mamoi if I remember correctly. All the Avets are just great quality reels and the owners and staff are very helpful. In fact call them directly and ask their opinion.
