Do the rod builders get request for this style on boat/trolling outfits. It seems like a natural application for a dink/ 20# outfit or am I wrong?

YES,
The Acid effect is good for all rods inshore to tuna, the more drag you pull, the more stable it becomes.
here is some video of tuna rods

And Sweet Set Of ACID Trolling/ stand up rods.
SWEET AFTCO SEATS.
SLICK BUTTS FOR TROLLING.
And no extra charge for Acid.
Paul those rods look awesome.
I have used acid wrapped rods trolling inshore and the worked and felt great.
Sometimes, the request is made, but more often than not, the option is offered. I have found that with Pitchbait Rods, the application is absolutely perfect. When pitching bait back to fish, line can have a tendency to snag or wrap around guides. When the spiral wrap is used, the line does not snag or wrap because the guides are under the rod and out of the way. The only negative I have heard about them is that the guides get a little beat up on the dock when the rods are being cleaned, but that is easy to overcome.
