They are nice but nothing special. For the money I dont think you can do better. For something trick look up those 6500 CS chrome rockets on ebay. For a rod any medium/heavy 6 to 7'er will do. All depends on what you whant to spend but I like the Shimano and lamiglass factory rods. The new Falcon Coastals are nice also.

I have two ,I use for flounder and living rock . Had them for 12 or 15 years , replaced the level wind paw ($2.00) a couple of times . Great reel for the money .

I bought th 5500C3 and put it on a St croix PC70 MF that I had .. New to the whole Baitcasting thing .. The reel looks good and holds 205yrds of 12 lb line.. It should serve me well in the backbays for fluke, weakies and stripers.. I can't cast it well but with some practice I should be all right by spring..Thanks for the replies..

What series of Shimano rods?? I own a Lamiglass 7' MH Inshore series that is just great..I have an Avet SX on it and caught many stripers on that rig in the Delaware Bay this past season..

Pretty much whiever fit your budget. All the inshore models are good values and good rods. Fit the action to your fihsing style. I put my Avet SX on a Lami triflex 7'. I've been using for everything from offshore wreck fishing to inshore stripers and fluke. Planning on trying to land a big thresher on it this spring.

I've got about 6 of the Abu 5500C3 reels, had them for several years. With regular maintenance they will last you a long time. I've replaced the levelwind pawl on all of them but thats it. Good reel for the money
