80 reel fitting on smaller unibutt????

Does anybody know if an 80 (tiagra or penn) can fit on the aftco smaller uni butts (the usb2 models). I am making an 80 bent butt rod but would like to put the smaller bent butt on it because it is a stand up and I am not sure if the reel seat clamps are big enough.

Yes they will. The shorter butt doesn't affect the length of the seat. I think its aftco model UB2SC

This is a good question.

A friend of mine brought a pair of Accurate 130s to go on a pair of Custom Ian Miller 130 stand-ups and guess what - they didn't fit the reel seats!

They do now but I can't remember who changed what.

The reel foot on the 80 size reel is larger than the 50. The hood on AFTCO UB2S unibutt is machined to accept the 50-size foot. There are some hoods available to fit an 80, but they are not stock items on the UB2SC. Generally, you will find them on the AFTCO #4 reel seat, not the #3. Check carefully.
