    Angry 30VSW Drag Problem HELP!!

Just got two new 30VSWs. One has some problems........already
I push the LEVER to free and try to press and turn the DRAG PRESET KNOB

The thing goes in, but doesn't turn.

When I turn it left or right, it almost feels like something is blocking the knob, not letting it turn.

THIS WAS WORKING A FEW DAYS AGO!!!

Any ideas on why it isnt working now??
    Thanks for the help,
    Fintan

Just looked at the other one. It's like what happens when the lever isn't in free...but it is

I had that problem when i swaped out the drag washers. make sure that the slot for the piece that actually turns it inside the reel (part 143 on the specs)is lubed up. i know this is a pretty bad explination but it should help.

Had the same problem as Mike when I upgraded my drag washers. If you haven't taken them apart then I would just return it rather than going through tearing down the whole reel. But if you're thinking about upgrading the drags to the 50# washers, might as well do the drags while you're in there. Never serviced a reel before and these were really easy to learn on and upgrade.

Good or bad, however you want to look at it, I went in there tonight.
Just got done. As AquaholicFishing said, I found it suprisingly easy just looking at the parts list(or whatever it's called).
All I really did was go in, take it apart, look at everything and put it back together, lol
I did look at the specific parts mentioned and inspeced how they work.
Now it works!! Plus, the experience will come in handy for maintenance and such.
So, thank you Capt. Brian, and everyone else who responded but I don't think I will need any more help on this one.
    Thanks,
    Fintan

Oh, I almost forgot. I espically thank Deep C for reminding me how absolutely wonderful Penn Reels work as grouper weights. Thank you Deep

    Go easy on Penn Reels!

I can't say I agree with this statement. I use Penn products all the time on my charter operation, and there have been very few failures or issues with my equipment. Of course, I stay on top of the service and lubrication of my reels.

If anyone has a problem with a Penn Reel, we would be happy to look at it for you and repair, adjust, service as needed. Just give us a call. 1-888-810-7283.

Also, with the new ownership of Penn being a large public corporation, I would bet that more development money will be spent, which will equate to improvements, new products and an overall better company. I've been assured by Penn's management that the company will operate independently from Shakespeare and K2 Corporation. The International Reels will continue to be made in Pennsylvania, USA, by Americans.
