    10 ft rod info

Hi Guys: This may be a stupid question but, here it is. I fish the Great Lakes, mainly steelhead, salmon and walleye. I am looking for perhaps 2- 10 foot rods and 2-9 foot rods. I was thinking of trying going to the bent butt rods. Are these sizes even available as I want to use wire line. If they are not available does anyone have an idea of the cost. Any suggestionswould be aprreciated.

    10 foot

Hi Paul: I would use wire on the 2-10 foot rods and perhaps braid on the other 2-9 foot. I would be salmon fishing. Fish would be around 35 pounds.
I kind of like the bent butt's so I do not have to invest in side riggers and drilling holes in my boat. I have a Grady White 228 which I use mainly for fishing, but also for cruising around. Did not want the boat to look just like a fishing machine if you know what I mean? Thanks. Dwain

Paul: I would be running two out the side and two out the back. If you have other suggestions, let me know. Thanks. Dwain

A boat that size and a 10' bent butt??? Would the fish be cranked in while the rod stays in the gunnel?????????? Seems kinda useless to me.......(just being curious about the advantages and trying to learn)

that would probable be the best way to fish that. just crank it in
but with 25# fish, it might not be to bad to hold
alot of the trolling rods we do for up there are 8-9'
but straight, not with a alum butt

we have done some strange stuff
but if it works for the guy using it, thats all that matters
thats what "custom" is all about

Hi Manny and Paul: Many of the guys up here use 9 and 10 foot rods with wire or lead core. The only reason I was thinking of the bent butt rods was that I did not want to add more rod holders to the boat. Still want to keep the boat as fishing/family outings. I can order stainless rod holders through ebay from a guy in California and use the Shimano Talaro Rods which can be purchased in the 9 and 10 foot range. I already have 15 foot outriggers, so I figured perhaps two 10 foot butts out each side and perhaps the other two out the back. I already have two 9 foot lead core rods which I use straight out the back. I would also use my downriggers out each side. Does this make any sense to you? The fish would be reeled in standing up and not from the gunnel. Dwain

i know what you are talking about, and what you want to do.
    its not a problem
with a longer rod and the fish not being huge, i dont think you will have a problem

NOW it's starting to make sense!! It just seems a little "long" for a bent butt, but that's what this site is all about.....READ & LEARN!!
