chris, i am certain that you see many things more clearly now.....

Alan , thanks so much ...I sat at the old house as I was having a craigs list sale of some items I hated to part with ... but I did ... also was the yard sale out front... I dis assembled this unit 3x and reassembled 4 times lol.... I am very familiar with the tear down and have refreshed myself quite well in the past weeks.

I sure appreciate the help and I will PM you asap.

I'd like to see the guy who called BS on anything that I wrote about my history at Shimano and my role in the development of the products there too. I'm really sorry that I missed it and it seems to have disappeared. If the sob has the balls to come back I hope he has a fat wallet, because right here in front of all of you I will bet him any amount he'd like, we'll let Admin hold the money and then make the decision on who is full of shit here.

Hey Capt Fred: I have a Shimano Bantam 201 lefty that sits idle in my garage. Did you have anything to do with its design? Newer baitcasters are much smoother and cast far better, but it is still a magnificently designed and manufactured reel. I could never part with it even though it is retired. I think I caught a few thousand bass on that reel back when i was cool.

Alan, great post. There are a surprising number of TBMs laying around although many have difficulties with their drag system - see next paragraph...

Fred, did the larger models have a different drag material? (the ones in the 4/0 look like woven carbon fibre drag material similar to the TLD series reels.) A lot of them have sticky drags and I've been told the reason is some silicon (?) component in the drag breaking down with age. Any recommendations for drag materials that could serve as a replacement?

I do like them a lot. I like the hydrothermaljigs

better for sit down fishing but the smaller sizes seemed to fit me really well (reel size, cranking power, line capacity) when stand up fishing.
