Reel choice?

I am looking to buy a 50 class reel for stand up bluefin fishing. I am leaning towards an AVET 50 sds or a penn 50 vsx any suggestions or reasons for one over the other. I will be fishing off the coast of Mass

Have never used an avet. I have 2 30 vsw's and they are some sweet reels. Have taken a few makos, a 150-160 lb. thresher, plenty of bluefin up to 80 lbs. and have never had a problem. Upgraded my drags to 50's this year so I am hoping to tangle with something a little bigger this year. Still looking for my first 300+ lb. mako. Reels are easy to care for, stripping them down and greasing takes me about 30 min. per reel. I'm sure the Shimano guys will probably try to talk you out of both the avet & penn. But if you go with the penn you will not be disappointed!

What size Bluefins are you targeting.

The folks close to me will know why I ask this question.

I second that! We use 30's & 50's and have had no problem landing up to 300lb Bluefins.
