Penn Graph-Lite Reel's,

Anyone have any experienced with these reel's, particularly the 30's and 50's. Are these made in the States or "offshore"? How do these reel's stack up to the Shimano graphite reel's? Frank

Nice writeup on that link.

I own and fish GLD30II's, GLD50II's, TLD25's, Tld50II. I've never taken them apart but have brought in a good number of fish on them. We fish both Tuna and marlin so I like using the 30's rather than the 25's purely because they are more substantial and give better support for a decent tuna or blue. In the 50 class I've been happy with them both. I prefer the drags on the GLD50II's over all of them and have found the drags on both the 25's and 30II's to get a bit sticky near freespool. Could be just the luck of the draw or something in the way I store them.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either, good luck.

The write up didn't go exactly like I was expecting. I figured it would go like Shimano, Shimano, Shimano. I don't know how long these reel's have been out there, and don't know anyone here locally who uses them. I've got a bunch of perfectly good working Senator's, I don't have any problem's using them. Just thought down the line, or if I came across a "deal", this would give me some insite. By the way, the service break down and re assembly didn't look too bad on these reel's either. Thank's, Frank

Penn GLD Series reels

Good morning.....Maybe I'm a bit bias towards the Penn reels, but this series of reels are very decent graphite lever drag reels.Pretty much comparable in ratings and performance compared to other manufacturers. These reels are still manufactured in our plant here in Philadelphia.A good solid reel available in single and two speed models. And mentioned in another post, pretty simple to maintain and service if need be.

Take care.........Tom
