Penn 9500SS problem

I noticed last trip out that on one of my Penn 9500's the infinate anti reverse some times doesn't work and the reel will turn backwards. this is a new this season reel and has only been abused several times by tuna for no more than an hour or so at a fight. This would really suck fighting a fish. Any help with this? Where to look? The old types had a lever and a ratchet kind of deal if I remember. These don't have the selector lever. Thanks. Scotty.

Call Kay at surfland bait and tackle on plum island, tell her what the deal is and see what she says. She will send you any parts you may need.

Thanks guys I was hoping to fix it myself so I know what caused it. Hey we fish hard stuff gets used hard and you get some issues. I have back up rigs but this is my lucky reel and I don't want to loose the mojo Scotty.

I'd have to look at the schematic, but it sounds like the dog is stuck or the spring is shot. I think it's at the top of the reel body if you take off the sideplate but it's been a while since I had one open in front of me.

Penn SS reels aren't very tricky to open up so don't think that springs and stuff will be flying if you turn a screw.

Problem solved I took it back where I bought it and swaped out the body so I could keep my braid and flouro. I still have my lucky spool! I can't bitch this reel has been hammered this season. Looked new but has been tied to some gorilla tuna. Scotty.

I think I over stressed this reel by locking the drag down to pump up a mid 60's fish that was locked up 20 feet down. Fish released reel hurt. The new ones are made in ....anyone? Yup you guessed it China. maybe they aren't as rugged. Scotty.
