Okuma Reels
What do you guys think of okuma reels. They are less expensive but are they the quality of the penn internationals and the shimano tiagras? I have heard alot of mixed reviews and would like a clear desission.

The Okumas aren't that much cheaper than the Avets - and the Avets are good solid reels.
I replaces a set of Okumas about 8 years ago with a set of Avet LX that I use for King Macks. The Okumas made it one summer befoe I ditched them. The drags were really inconsistent, pieces popped off a few of them.

Go with the avets. I've had my lx for a long time. Went thru 3 okumas in the same amount of time!

I consider the Daiwa as well. Okuma's are a step below and priced accordingly.

Remember you only get what you pay for. For the money they do thier job. Would i make a living with them probably not. I do know they have improved the line of offshore reels in the past few years. I have also seen a tutorial from Alan Tani. On the newer Okuma Titus Silver 50 ( middle grade of the Okuma offshore 50 class reels) and he gave it high reviews see the turorial here ( http://humboldttuna.com/smf/index.php?topic=246.0 ).
I dont think you can compare it to the upper class reels but For an entry level reel it aint all bad.. Some guys can not afford the best (what ever brand that may be) so for someone just getting into the game and on a limited budget they are an option..
