avet vs. penn
I'm looking for a small casting reel. I am trying to decide between the avet sx and the penn 975 ld. I'm leaning towards the avet because its cheaper and i feel it has a better drag. It will be used mostly for flounder and stripers. Also what kind of line should i run on it. I wanted braid but not too sure if it would be good for casting. Any sugestions?

I love my Penn 975ld. It has 30 lb powerpro on it. I think that the drag is super smooth and it is the reel that I use for chunking stripers. I haven't used the Avet yet but I hear that they are sweet as well. You probably can't go wrong with either one though.

what type of rod do you use. I have a st. croix tidemaster spinning rod and i think I may just get the casting version.

I love my Penn Tidemaster combo have had it for at least 4 years now and it is a great reel. Very smooth drag and the casting is fairly decent by jazzing it a bit.

It's on a Penn Kingfisher. The St. Croix would work fine as well.

I think i'm leaning toward the penn because i'd rather have the levelwind. Anybody use chaos rods? They don't look too bad.

I remember a thread about them and it didn't seem to be worth the money. They have corrosion issues if I remember correctly. That thread is what caused me not to buy them.
