i would go with the lightest.
both seem to have their likes and dislikes by people, i think both will do the job, |

I own a Penn 16vsx and a few other Penn Internaionals which I bought recent and find them all to be great reels.

I use my 16VSX's for deep dropping for Grouper and AJ's and occassionally for stand up, while Tuna fishing and I can tell you what, they are bad to the bone.....the 16 is one tough little reel!

I just recently bought my first Avet 30, tried it out with 60, and it is an absolute superb reel. The drag on the Avet's simply provide much more muscle for the size than Penn's. Don't get me wrong, the Penn is a great reel, but for the overall brute strength (and value for the money) I've gotta give it to Avet.

i like the 16's very light easy to handle they got a nice drag. put 80 pound jerry brown on it and it will be a little work horse. we fished the 16's and boated bluefin up to 150 pounds on them
