    Tuna Wars 2012

Hello anglers, Today we departed on our Tuna Wars charter with a full load of familiar faces. After picking up our bait, we cleared Point Loma just after noon. We will be starting off our trip offshore looking for tuna. Wish us luck.

    Tuna Wars Goes To Battle
We had an amazing day today with the Tuna Wars group! Not only did we have limits of bluefin tuna by lunch time, we also had good fishing on yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, and dorado. These guys had a huge day. There was one stop where we had 60-100 pound bluefin crashing everywhere around the boat. We only landed one, but lost seven others, what a heartbreaker. There were also some of that good grade yellowfin in the mix. We will be here again tomorrow. Wish us luck.

I can't believe how good fishing is right now. We had a stop yesterday that produced limits of bluefin tuna, and this morning, in the same area, we had a nine hour drift that yielded limits of these beautiful grade yellowfin tuna. Like I said UNBELIEVABLE! Needless to say the entire boat is fired up and having a great time. I have to say that the Tuna Wars group did awesome in the heat of battle and the crew was amazing to keep all of these fish from tangling each other. We are now headed down to the warmer waters below to see if maybe we can get a crack at a few dorado and wahoo. Wish us luck.

    Alijos looks better
We decided to give the Rocks another try after last weeks skunk just because the conditions looked like they were going to change. The water has come up to 75 degrees now and there is some wahoo that moved in. After picking off 35 skin, we tried for tuna for a while and boated nine tuna up to 75 pounds. Unfortunately we lost at least that many to the sharks. All things considered, I think this place will be really good in a couple more weeks with this warm water around. The highlight of the day was seeing many anglers catch their first ever wahoo. Just after lunch, the current went away and the bite shut off so we are making a move tonight to see if we can keep the ball rolling. Wish us luck.

    All topped off
Today we found ourselves looking for yellowtail at the ridge. It didn't take long before we found a good school that was ready to bite. For the better part of two hours we had ten to fifteen fish going all the time. It was as good as it gets. The fish were biting everything from the dropper loop to the surface iron. After we got our share of these quality yellows, we made a move to look for trophies. The next spot we hit was much of the same with a better grade of fish. After everybody got their fill of these big yellowtail, we called it a trip. We will spend the next couple days heading up the line in good weather. Even though we are topped off with fish for this trip, we will be scouting new waters for upcoming voyages.

    Feet up on the dash
We have been traveling up the coast in perfect weather just cleaning the boat and doing some general upkeep. The passengers are mostly just hanging out and enjoying themselves, reminiscing about the spectacular trip that they have just been part of. Wide open fishing on bluefin the first day, wide open yellowfin the second, good wahoo fishing at the rocks, wide open yellowtail on the ridge, and to round it all off we have had flat calm seas the entire time. I want to thank charter master Al Petrovich and the entire Tuna Wars group for another outstanding tip. We will see you again in 2013.
