Excel 3:00 o'clock Report on the Gallagher Trip
Justin called in at the start of his trip, "We are cruising down south here on the Gallagher 8 Day Trip. It is pretty much the same group that was out here last year, a really good group of guys. As of right now our plan is to head down the beach and start out on the Ridge and try to get some action before we try and go get our jackpot fish. There is still good fish to be had offshore but we will come up with a game plan tomorrow morning and go from there."
Check back tomorrow when Justin will have another update.

Update on Excel Trip 8/27/2011
Justin called in with his latest report on the Excel, "We started offshore today with basically flat calm conditions. e took the opportunity to look around offshore, and we were not disappointed. We got into a nice area of warm water where there was good sign on mixed grade Yellowfin tuna, anywhere from 15 lbs. up to 40 lbs.. We put together a nice day we have like 150 of them on board. The guys are happy, good action, good weather. We are going to start sliding down to put ourselves in position to be on the Ridge tomorrow. Hopefully this nice weather holds up for us.
"Also on a side note I am happy to announce that we did get our on-line booking hooked up for the Excel office. You can now book directly on-line so you can check that out on our wen site.

Excel Report 8/28/2011
Justin reported that, "We ended up heading down to the Ridge and doing some yank'n and crank'n on some Yellowtail, just like it has been a one stop shop on the Yellowtail down there. It is a good grade and good weather since all the guys are having a good time.
"We are heading out west to see what Alijos has to see if we can get some bigger tuna on board. There have been tuna out there in the 60 to 100 lb. class. Hopefully the shark problem is gone and we can do some fishing. We will be out there tomorrow and we will give you a report tomorrow afternoon. Things are going well on the Excel see you then"

Excel Checks In From Alijos Rocks
Justin Fleck called in with his report from the Rocks, We got here a couple of hours before daylight we looked around and really didn't see much then we switched around and started hooking a few tuna. Just as advertised the sharks were a nuisance for us. It seemed like the tuna wanted to bite a little bit but it was a shame that the sharks got most of what we hooked. We did manage to land 16 tuna up to 65 lbs.
"Something interesting is that we got the first real sign of Wahoo that we have had all year. We ended up getting 16 skin and they are really nice ones the traditional early sized Wahoo, 35 to 40 lb'ers. We had a decent shot at them, I think we hooked 30 of them or more to get those 16. They were zooming around the boat biting off people's jigs.
A little bit of excitement out here at the "Rocks", we'll stay the night and see what we can do tomorrow. See if we can stay away from those pesky sharks. Check in with you guys again tomorrow."

Excel Update 8/31/2011
Justin Fleck called in to provide an update on the Excel, this is what he had to say, "We began the day offshore looking for any kind of life, we got into an area where we had good fishing again on Yellowfin tuna mixed grade but the guys were having a blast doing it. And we managed to put up plenty of Yellowfin and we're all fixed up on those and there were some nice Dorado to go along with them.
"We are going to start making our way up to fish our last day in the "local" zone. We want to see if we can get some Bluefin mixed into our already nice catch and call it a trip."

Excel Pat Gallagher Trip -- 76 lb. Wahoo among the Winners
Nice weather and all the fish you could want came to the 30 anglers on the annual Gallagher trip aboard Excel. Justin Fleck docked the big rig at Fisherman's Landing September 2 with near-limits around. Large tuna were hooked and fought at Alijos Rocks during the trip, but few were landed, said skipper Fleck, because of the voracious sharks in the area.
Auggie Roberts of Hermosa Beach won first place for an 88-pound yellowfin he caught at Alijos Rocks with a sardine on a ringed 4/0 Gamakatsu hook tied to 50-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon. He said he used 50-pound Big Game line and 60-pound Line One spectra on an Avet LX reel and a Calstar 6480 rod.
Excel regular fisherman Mike Rangell of Pico Rivera won second place for his stunning 76-pound wahoo. He got it on the iron, on a chrome/pink Raider jig he tied to 50-pound Big Game line on an Accurate BX-2 500 reel (won on a trip with Bill Roecker) and a Calstar 856 XH rod. It was the best skinny of the season so far.
Lukas Sekerka of Thousand Oaks won third place for a 53.7-pound Alijos Rocks yellowfin tuna.
