Report from the Excel, 10/2/2011
Mike Ramirez called in to give an update on the Excel,"Today we started off further south from where we had our score yesterday. Sunrise brought better action on better grade Yellows with a decent mix of Dorado. Once again a yo-yo iron and fly line base were the hot ticket. With plenty of Yellowtail on board we set our sights on tuna a dorado. We did manage to scratch a few dorado for the afternoon. However no big hits. We will keep you posted."

Excel Returns from Phenix Rods 8 Day Trip
Mike Ramirez docked Excel at Fisherman's Landing October 7 after an eight-day trip with 32 anglers that ventured south to below Mag Bay looking for tuna and dorado. Tuna were hard to come by, by yellowtail and dorado were not, and a good catch of those species was made on The Ridge and offshore. Mel Fai was chartermaster.
Gerry Villalobos of Eagle Rock won first place for his 43-pound wahoo, a baitfish that took his sardine on a 3/0 Owner Mutu hook on 30-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon, 40-pound Big Game line and 50-pound Power Pro spectra. He said he used an Avet MXL reel and a Calstar 700 H rod.
Ric Bynum of Sacramento won second place for a 29.4-pound dorado, and Brad Zircoe of Danville won third place for a 28.2-pound “dodo.”
