    Team Hoo 10 day trip

    Hello Anglers,

We departed on our annual Team Hoo 10 day trip today with a lot of familiar faces. The bait looks good here as we clear Point Loma on our way south in search of big tuna. The weather forecast looks good for a while so hopefully we can get on some cows. Wish us luck... JUSTIN

Time to rig up for cow sized tuna.

    Hello Anglers,

We spent the day heading south with sunny skies and flat calm seas. I wish the weather was always like this. In the morning, we had our first seminar on how to rig up for cow sized tuna. In the afternoon, we went over the proper way to use a harness and how to successfully crimp a leader. The gang has been hanging out and enjoying the ride. JUSTIN

    Started off strong!

    [ added November 16, 2010 ]

    Hello Anglers,

We started off strong here on the lower banks, with good fishing on mixed grade tuna and excellent fishing on dorado. The morning started out with a hit on big tuna from 140-185 pounds. Around 0730 though, they seemed to lose interest and it was impossible to hook one. After looking around for a while, the Royal Polaris called us in on a kelp that had an unbelievable amount of dorado. After crossing off Mahi from our list, we were drifting along and cleaning the boat when a nice school of 60-110 pound tuna rushed the boat and started eating everything in the water. At this time we only had about an hour of daylight left but the guys made good use of it sticking with the heavy gear. They bit right up until dark but man I wish we had just one more hour! As of 1000 this morning we have seven fish over 125 pounds on board with a couple of real heartbreaks. Bill Cashman unbuttoned one well over 300 pounds just a few feet from the boat. Steve Ruiter and Tim Cutt both landed a cow this morning taping out around the 220 pound mark. I think for today we are just going to be patient and sit here as long as we have fish around the boat. On a side note, Ken Bell would like to thank Eric's Tackle in Ventura for his generosity with the give aways. Team Hoo gave away eight Avet Reels this year. Thanks guys... JUSTIN

Excellent morning on 80-200 pound fish

    [ added November 17, 2010 ]

    Hello Anglers,

It's about lunch time here on the Lower Banks where we had an excellent morning on 80-200 pound fish. So far we have 32 fish on board with a couple more on the ends of the lines. Most of the fish came on fly lined sardines and a few others on the kites. We definitely see good sign of fish around the boat so we are hoping for another hit at sundown. Here are some pictures from our morning. JUSTIN

    Bill Lynd a 215 & John Kabay catching a 205 pounder!

    [ added November 18, 2010 ]

    Hello Anglers,

Not much action in the afternoon yesterday but we did manage to boat a handful of bigger ones. This morning has started off good for us, we have a dozen fish aboard and one hanging. Two more cows came on with Bill Lynd landing a 215 and John Kabay catching a 205 pounder. Both fish were on the fly lined sardines. We are going to give this a little bit more time here before we pull the anchor and start working up the line trying for wahoo, grouper, and yellowtail. JUSTIN

    Over The Top!

    [ added November 21, 2010 ]

    Hello Anglers,

We have spent the past couple of days working our way up the line stopping along the Ridge, along the beach, at the islands, ending up around S San Quintin. Fishing has been a little on the slow side but we did manage to pick up some yellowtail, rockfish, and a couple of grouper, including Mark Dorton's giant in the picture below. Our eta to Fisherman's Landing is 0700 tomorrow morning where we will offload our catch, clean the boat, and shut down for a couple of days. JUSTIN Charter Masters Ken Bell and Mark Dorton would like to write a few words: Team Hoo want to thank the Excel crew for another years SUPER performance. We also want to thank Eric Huff of Eric's Tackle in Ventura. It is with his assistance and support that out trips are " over the top" every year. Thanks.....
