Excel Dan Colonello Trip Report Day 1 on 9/15/2011

Justin Fleck called in to report on the Dan Colonello 8 Day Trip, a group of regular passengers on here a bunch of good guys and girls all amped up ready to go fishing. We have a nice weather window to work with here and it sounds like the fishing down below is pretty darn good. We are going to get our trip started, heading down south and see what we come up with. We'll have another report tomorrow."

Early Morning Report from the Excel on the Dan Colonello Trip

Justin Fleck called in to give us a report from the Dan Colonello Trip, "It is Saturday morning just about sunrise we're roll'n down toward the Ridge. Yesterday was pretty much just a travel day, our tackle seminars and rigged up stuff and pretty much got everything ready to go. People hung out all day, relaxing enjoying the nice weather. Most guys hung out in the galley lounging around surf'n the internet. Just a reminder for guys think'n about coming out on future trips the Wi-Fi is up and running.

"We're excited about fishing today. We should be down in the strike zone just after breakfast, hopefully get these things located.Another beautiful day on the Excel, we'll report back again a little later."

Excel Dinner Time Report on the Dan Colonello Trip

Justin called in to give us a dinner time report on the Excel's fishing for the day, "Guys had an excellent day down here fishing around the Ridge. Started off catching some Bluefin tuna right out of the gate and a little bit of Yellowfin mixed in then the Yellowtail took over. We had excellent Yellowtail fishing though out the day with a few Dorado, Grouper tuna sprinkled in. But the quality down here is still great. I'd call it an 18 to 22 lb. average. And I think everyone has pretty much all the Yellowtail they can handle at this point.

We're going to leave these for another day we're heading down the Ridge and we'll be at the bottom of the Ridge tomorrow to see if we can't find some Dorado and some Wahoo or two. We are off to a good start here and I'll report again tomorrow."

Dinner Report for the Dan Colonello Trip aboard the Excel

Justin Fleck called in to give this report about the Excel Dan Colonello trip, "The guys had a great day fishing todayon good sized Dorado. It seemed like everything that we passed that was floating out off the Ridge was loaded up with Dorado. They are nice quality and everybody got what they needed. Very healthy fish, it is good to see these tings come back in big numbers and to see a bunch of them in the water at the same time. At one point everybody just stopped fishing to watch these Dorado swim around the boat for several minutes eating anything that was in the water. Lots of Dorado around it looks good for the fall fishery. Hopefully they stick around for awhile.

"Tomorrow we are going to be heading out West a ways to see if we can get some bigger tuna on board. To see if we can get the Jackpot settled, I think that is what the guys would like a shot at. A shot at some nicer grade tuna. We'll call in again tomorrow night with a report. Everyone's having a good time."

Excel Report on the Dan Colonello 8 Day Trip, 9/20/2011

Justin Fleck called in to give us this update, "We made a move to the outside all day yesterday from sunrise to sunset we pretty much had steady fishing on Yellowfin tuna. Mixed grade, I'd say the majority of them are school sized fish 15 to 25 lbs. But there is a good percentage of better sized fish mixed in, 40 to 70 lbs. There is a good sight of tuna here on the outside, guys are having a great time. We had a shot at some better ones this morning and guys got what they needed.

"So we are going to head on up to put ourselves in a position to do a little bit of fishing on our way to San Diego. The weather is still good, the fish'n is good, guys are having a good time here on the Excel. Here are some pictures."

    Trip summary

Hello Anglers, With the RSW wells topped off and everybody tuckered out from yanking on fish the whole time, the last day was spent breaking down gear and just hanging out and reminissing about the great trip we have all just been a part of. I can't say enough about this group af anglers that we have on board the boat. Not only are they good anglers that work well with each other, they are also just a pleasure to be around. Thanks for everything. Our eta to Fishermans Landing is 0700 tomorrow morning. Here are some pictures from the trip. JUSTIN
