Let's Talk Hook Up Day 1

Hello Anglers, Today we departed on the annual Let's Talk Hook Up 6 day trip. We have a boat load of great passengers, regulars and new comers. The passengers spent the early afternoon dining on home made pizza and rigging up their gear,while the guys loaded bait. We took on a nice batch of sardines for our voyage south. Wish us luck. Mike

Excel Brings Home Better Tuna

Excel skipper Justin Fleck brought his 32 anglers home to Fisherman’s Landing September 24 with a good mixed catch taken from waters down to and below Magdalena Bay.

Craig Barker of Rio Vista won first place for a 60.94-pound tuna he got with a sardine on a 4/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook on 25-pound Big Game line, an Avet HX reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6465 rod after a 20-minute fight.

Mike Flores of Orange County won second place for a 55.66-pound yellowfin tuna he got with a sardine on a 5/0 ringed Owner Super Mutu hook tied to 50-pound Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon and 65-pound Power Pro spectra on an Accurate BX-2 500 reel and a Super Seeker 6470 H rod. Wayne Stewart of Lancaster took third place for a 41-pound yellowfin tuna.

Excel Report 9/24/2011

Mike Ramirez called in with an update on the Excel fishing, "Today we fished offshore, the morning was kinda slow but the afternoon made up for it. There were plenty of school sized tuna, Dorado on kelps and it bit right into the dark.

"We are going to head for the Island tomorrow to fish for Yellowtail and see how it goes. Wish us luck. We'll check back in tomorrow."

Mike Ramirez called in to give an update on the Excel, "Today we fished Bonitos Island, we had pretty good fishing on Yellowtail, good grade."

Report from the Excel, 9/26/2011

Mike Ramirez called in with an update on the Excel, "We had a good day of fishing today, we fished Cedros Island. We had very good Yellowtail fishing, everybody got plenty of fish. We also had a few Trophys mixed in, up to 45 lbs. maybe a 50 pounder. We had good weather all day, all-in-all we had a really good day of fishing.

"Tomorrow we are offshore looking for tuna or Dorado on kelp. I'll call back tomorrow to give another update."
