Here's my buddy Paul with his first Potomac River Northern Snakehead. It was the first one caught from my boat and made for a pretty entertaining video.

Northern Snakeheads are now being caught on the Potomac River and it's tributaries on a regular basis. They are being found north of Washington, DC and as far south as where the water becomes too brackish for them to survive. As controversial as they may be, there are still many who find them to be a welcomed new arrival to this fishery. Others fear what impact Snakeheads may have on an ecosystem after watching countless documentaries and reports on the potential damage that can arise from this invasive species. From my experience, I'm still crushing bass on the Potomac and enjoy the occasional battle with this new exotic species. Snakeheads were first found in the Potomac in 2002, and currently, there have been no reports suggesting a decline in bass populations or in any other species for that matter. So for now, the debate continues about whether the Snakehead should be shunned or embraced. We are required to kill everyone we catch and it's suggested that it is one of the best eating fish out there. The one in this video made it to my kitchen and was truly one of the best fish I've ever had (and I had them all). We catch them on most bass lures, however, the most common bite comes on topwater with frogs and buzzbaits. For those targeting Snakeheads (and many are including folks hiring guides to help find them) the strike is unbelievable and the fight is epic. They're pretty cool looking too, huh?!?!
