This ray was caught on a rod and reel in the Maeklong River in Thailand by Ian Welch on a National Geographic expedition (objective is to protect the large fish species in rivers and lakes).
That is a huge ray. I wonder how big the barb in the tail is.
I saw this on another site somewhere and they were toting it to be the "largest freshwater fish" ever caught on rod and reel. I think the article said it was in the upper 700 or low 800's. If that was the case, I guess the 1,000 pound Sturgeon that are caught don't qualify as freswater fish.
I'm going to do a little searching today to see if I can find that article I saw. I'll post it if I do and you can decide the "what's up with that?" about it.
