Peacock Bass Fishing Report
:. The week of June13th-June20th produced my friend and I with a 3, 4, 4.6, 5.1, 5.7, 6 and a monster godzilla peacock!!! This qll lasted Until after July 2nd. The peacock nesting spree finished after I caught a 6lb 1 ounce goliath. And so here we are, over half the peacocks are raising their children, the others practicing cannibalism. As I told a member SoFLA34 Im going to tell everyone what is going on and your best bet. This is the time of year where you wont catch many peacock potting/camping/nesting. However there will be a few on the nest. Mainly One of two things are happening. 1.) The peacock with successful hatchings of their children are now following and protecting their children. 2.) Peacock beginning to school, even with a few largemouth. I saw a school of 16 the other day, so they are really getting together. Currently the fishing is sllloowwww because there is a full moon (July 7th). Your best bet for catching both 1 and 2 are fishing the early morning hours. Particularly dawn or dusk. These fish arent crazy about this str8 up in the sky sun. Anyways I have more luck at dawn. The lakes are typically calm, and you can see disturbances near shore. Give a cast without showing yourself first. If theres a school pushing baitfish up to shore your almost guaranteed a fish. Now if they are protecting their children dont put the attention on the kids, put it on the adults (turn your lure into the aggressor). Cast slightly behind them and charge the adult with your lure. HE/she will eventually bite it, whether its cast 1 or 50. Live bait for the schools. Try using a shiny lure to instigate the larger adults with their children. Theres something about the shine that they hate more. And my monster that I caught this summer, he was 23inches long........... |

You want to really irritate them into striking? Drop a fly popper with a deep throat - gurgle pop into their midst. Even the Largies will take notice. But watch out for the tilapia (krap eaters) - they'll beat the pavon to the punch, so use bigger hooks - 1/0
