I ain't ever been fishing in Nebraska but we have some right nice catfish here in the Richmond area ( James River, arguably the best Blue Cat fishery in the Country). In these parts, the opposite is true for catching quality whisker fish. Fresh Gizzard shad is the ticket-- not frozen, not two days old on ice in a cooler-- but fresh, i.e., kept alive if at all possible until it's time to put on the hook. Makes a world of difference with the Blue Cats. Flatheads tend to bite much better (around here) on live bait-- especially a bream. Channel Cats will eat the garbage, but fresh bait tends to still work better than nasty, smelly stuff (again, in these parts.).
I have also fished Santee Cooper in SC for the Blues and the local custom there is similar to that in Virginia.
Another popular bait for the Blues around here is live eels but I have personally had much better sucess with shad.

Go on goggle and punch in " catfishnation " you wi get all the help you need for catching catties.
I would use 8/0 cycle hook, 50 lb leader, and use a fish finder on the main line.
    Good Luck!

never fished nebraska and dont plan to. Catfish are a majorly unwanted bycatch IMO in a saltwater enviroment, I was just relaying how we did it in salkahatchee, SC. most fragant baits (still fresh but oily) got the most and biggest bites
