Decided to venture out Friday evening and try some deep water fishing (at least for lake standerds).
I started fishing bluffs and found some nice Crappie but they were extremely deep.
I continued to use a 1/32 oz jig with an albino assassin plastic and caught my limit (15) in about 2 hours.
The fish were aggressive and you could easily detect the bite however they were at about a 20 to 25 count which if you were fishing by feel you would sometimes miss the hook set. Once I started watching my line for any tic or slack, I found the hook ups were at a higher percentage. I believe I caught 37 Crappie with at least 22 being keepers. Several I didn't measure but I am certain were over the 10inches minimum. I kept 15 slabs all over 11 inches and the majority being 12 to 13. Several times I thought I had a LM, SM or a Drum due to the fight and weight yet they all ended up being Crappie which had to be netted. I'm not much into the TARP thing (Tennessee Angler Recognition Program)www.state.tn.us/twra/fish/tarp/tarp.html
but I had two which was pushing 15inches. To catch these fish you really had to have patience and present the jig and just wait until you saw the tic of the line. If the jig hit bottom, you would just sloooooowly bump it off bottom and slightly reel.
On my way in I was able to get a few pictures of the fall colors and a beautiful rainbow. It was a great evening.
I tried Sunday afternoon after Church but didn't find the slabs I had found on Friday. The numbers were there but the quality was not. I headed home after my 40th Crappie but I only had 7 that were over 11 inches. I tossed all other fish back. I believe I may have squeaked out a limit if I was keeping the 10inch fish but it's not always about what you take home. Both evenings were a blessing.
