Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail to hit the waters of the Mississippi River at New Madrid, Missouri

The Cabela’s King Kat tournament trail will hit the waters of the Mississippi River at New Madrid, Missouri September 26, 2009. This is the opportunity for local catfish anglers to compete for cash, prizes and a chance to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat Classic to be held on the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes at Sheffield, Alabama.

This year’s event like last year will include a fun filled 2 day festival of events on September 25thth & 26th, (Friday and Saturday) with food venders, arts and craft booths along with many other attractions for the whole family. For more information on the 2-day festival call: 877-748-5300.

The New Madrid Chamber of Commerce will host a Community Fish Fry at the Mill Street Community Building, September 25 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Catfish plates will be $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 12 and under. The meal includes french fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, a drink and dessert. Carry outs will be available.

(Guaranteed payback of $5,000.00 to the top 15% of the field)

The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail is the opportunity for catfish anglers and clubs to advance to a new level with a major payback and media recognition for their abilities. The trail is a team event. Teams will consist of one or two persons with one exception. A third person may accompany the team provided the third person is under 16 years of age or over 65 years of age. Entry fees for these qualifier tournaments are $200.00 per team.

The tournament weigh-in will be held on Main Street in front of the Bank of New Madrid. Tournament hours are 6:30 AM until 3:00 PM. All anglers must be in weigh-in line by 4:00 PM with a 5 fish limit per team. To help preserve the sport only live fish will be weighed in and all fish will be released after the tournament. Participants may enter by mail or at the late registration to be held Friday night at the New Madrid Community Center from 5:00-7:00pm or at the mandatory meeting at 5:30am tournament morning at the weigh-in site. Deadline for mail in entries is 14 days prior to the event. All entries after that date will pay a $25.00 late fee. The top 20 teams at each qualifying event will qualify for the Cabela’s King Kat Classic. Also at each qualifying event field test products from national sponsors will be drawn for following the tournament weigh-in.

Free Cabela’s King Kat Fishing Derby

In conjunction with the tournament the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will hold the Cabela’s King Kat Kids event at the Lagoon on State Highway WW. The event is free of charge and open to all youth 12 and younger. Sign up is from 8:00 AM till 9:00 AM and will be held at the tournament weigh-in site. All children will receive a prize and be registered to win one of the 6-$2,000.00 Outdoor Promotions scholarships just for entering. The drawing will be held in October. Bring your favorite rod, reel and bait and show your true fishing ability. All children must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Prizes for winners will be given in two age groups, 0-7 and 8-12.
