Big cat shoot out 2010

Ok first off let me just say this during the tourny we had a blast, got to see our very own admin and his son colby catch their first catfish and colby actually ended up loosing a nice one but i will touch that in a few.

So every year we get beat down to our hole and end up that the fish pulled from there wins the tourny so admin said heck the rocketships up home lets bring it. what heck yea soend the day with him and his son what can be better plus we will beat everyone down south which is a 35+ mile run.

So we get the boat in and sit through the meeting and plan on being up there at 6 am since the shotgun start is 7 am. Well we get there at 6:05 and boats are already leaving. WTF is going on i ask ?? The tournament director said we told them they can leave but have to give the honor system and not fish til 7. You said what i ask?? So now we are running to get the boat fired up and play a 25 min. catch up.

We end up catching up to the fleet around the com barry bridge and get to our hole. We ended the day with 26 lbs of catfish and the biggest going 10.1 lbs. We weigh in and we are tied for 4th place 320$ the guy takes a measurement and we win by lenght. SWEET not long after that the guy that we were tied with says wait it goes by heaviest fish. No problem i say we have a 10.1 and they have a 9.4 well the tourament director comes to me and says sorry your heaviest fish is only 8 lbs.

Ok so now here i am scratching my head and saying to myself how the F do i have 26 lbs in fish and my biggest is only 8 lbs????? I tell the guy im not the smartest dude in the world but even i know and colby who is in the 2nd grade knows that 3x8 is only 24 lbs. So i scratch my head again and ask how is that possible and he says well yea that doesnt make sense well no sh*t thats what i been saying to you. So some jacka** comes to me and says well you guys weighed in a 8 lber for your heaviest fish, and i said what??? I been doing these things since i was 7 years old why the F would i weigh in a 8 lber when i have a 10.1 in the live well???

So we end up loosing the battle almost got into a fish fight well i did and one thing for sure i will never go bacdk to the big cat shoot out on the rancocus creek. The guys run the tourny all wrong and its all a joke anymore. It used to be the biggest catfish tourny but not anymore and now i know why it isnt. Plus all the guys that left early everyone that we passed was fishing at 6:30 am or earlier so so much for the honor system.

Just want people to know before they spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars and days for prep that dont even waste your time because they make their own rules up as the day goes.

Thanks for reading this whole thing but the good side is we had an awesome day with awesom friends and even got some good pics and video along the way. Pics soon to come

I agree with you, that tournament is a joke! they are a mess! Last year when I weighed in they put my three fish in a basket , put it on the scale. I got my total weight. (I dont remember what it was) anyway.....that put me in 2nd. the next guy that weighed in, they put his fish in a basket and then put another basket on top of it to calm the fish! Well he beat me by 2 ounces. Right away i said to them that they weighed my fish with one basket and I'm sure the other basket weighed at least more than 2 ounces! they tried to tell me they adjusted the scale for the extra basket! I was right there! They did no such thing. So I got bumped to third!
Also I agree with you about the 7am start. I got there at 630 and everybody was gone! W T F is that shit?
They called the winners over on the side and paid them but never even announced the winners or weights or pay-outs. Just said thanks for coming its over.
They used to give out door prizes. (besides the 50/50)
and have food and drinks for the guys afterwards. thqat tournament sucks anymore!
Plus they make you pay for the boat ramp! what kind of shit is that? I paid $120 to fish this tournament and we cant use the ramp for free? C'mon! That's rediculas!
I think I'm done fishing there retarded tournament too!
They are a total mess!!

I have to say,,,, I have never went out for catfish. A couple weeks ago I heard Bobby Gentile talking about catfishing. So when John mentioned this I thought It would be fun to try.

Fact is we had a blast. Colby and I have never been out on the river by the city but it was a really nice day.

The tournament?
Ugg to be very honest I went out for a fun day with my son and Seafood. Fishing to win? Heck no fished to enjoy a day with my son.

But sadly I know why not many boats fished this event.
I'm sure it could be a lot bigger but no doubt needs to have some better organization.

It was fun to explain to a 8 year old on the way home that some people have ways to make 3 fish weigh 26 lbs and the heaviest being 8lbs.
Colby kept going 8 plus 8 is 16 and 16 plus 8 is 24. How come he said our heavy fish was 8 lbs.

Fact is our heavy CatFish was 10 lbs.

I can not thank John and Bill enough for having us along for the day. It was fun and no doubt I will take my sons cat fishing again real son.


PS Jer, Colby wanted me to ask you if his catfish is bigger

What a damn shame. Grown Men cheating a kid are you friggin kidding me. Changing the rules and letting the "Boy's" leave an hour early than allowed.

You all have thicker skin than me.

I commend you Admin on showing your son the abillity to walk away and realize some grown men are not decent human beings. I'm glad you had fun with Colby his smiles are awesome.

These are the organizers of this event. If you are a member of this group you should be ashamed of yourselves.

If you fish there events I would think twice before being involved in any events run by this group.

Admin John and John Seafood, I'm sorry about what they did with you guys on the tournament but congrats on catching the REAL 4th place fish

Colby, your SMALLEST catfish is about 4 times heavier than my BIGGEST catfish Great job, buddy!

Also if I weighed in EVERY catfish I have caught, your smallest catfish would be probably heavier than all of my fish

I think I have yet to catch a freshwater catfish, but most of the saltwater fish I caught were cats

I doubt it. It seams this tournament is always a mess. I've seen nothing but problems in the past too. I know that myself and a few other guys that fished it before won't be back anymore.
That was the only tournament I've ever been to where they didn't even announce the winners , their total weight and the payout to the crowd. Just called them to the side, paid them and then came back to the crowd and said thanks for coming.
Our fish got weighed , they wrote it down and filed it. Never even told us what our total weight was.
You guys need a whole new system!

Can we get a little clarification please? On one hand your bragging about beating a 8 year old, yet, on the other hand your excited about the FUTURE tournament being ran correctly? The exact same tournament in which you fraudulently beat the kid???? Are you excited about cheating a 8 year old out of $320 or the fact that the tournament is a total farce and now that's it's been exposed and possibly will be corrected?? Can you elaborate? Again, congratulations on the win, it's a true highlight, and you should be proud of it.
