Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir

Bates Field and Stream (501-470-1846) said the water is high and stained. No report on any fishing conditions.

Dan at Gold Creek Landing (501-607-0590) said the water is high. Crappie still are biting well on jigs and minnows. No report on bass. White bass are biting well on Rooster Tails and Roadrunners. Catfishing is good. Bream fishing is fair.

Little Red River

Lindsey’s Resort (501-302-3139) said the water is high and clear with two generators running. Trout are biting well on spinners and Rapalas in the high water and on wax worms with marshmallows or corn in the low water.

Greers Ferry

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 467.7 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 461 MSL).

Tommy Cauley of Fish Finder Guide Service said the water level at Greers Ferry is at rising and is 6.65 feet above normal pool. The hybrid and white bass are picking back up as the water settles and clears some. Spoons, hair jigs, swimbaits and inline spinners are working well. Look for water 70 feet deep and bait suspended about 35-45 feet deep. Bass fishing is good with a lot of fish shallow. Try spinnerbaits, crankbaits and top water baits. Or try an Alabama rig or football head jig a little deeper. No report on catfish. Walleye, crappie and bream slowed with the muddy water.

Cody S. Smith of www.fishgreersferry.com said the water is rising from the rain and runoff. Few anglers are on the water. Walleye are beginning to feed well in shallow water on minnow-imitating lures and soft plastics. Bass are in deep brush in the backs of creeks and on main lake points. They are also in very shallow water, where the runoff is flowing into the lake. Hybrids and whites are both feeding on the main lake and in select creek and river arms. There hasn’t been much surface activity, but these fish are feeding on deeper shad. As the morning wears on they will force the shad shallower in the column but not to the surface. Depths of 12-22 feet over much deeper water have been best.

Harris Brake Lake

Harris Brake Lakeside Resort (501-889-2745) said the water is high and fairly clear. No report on the fishing

Whiskers Sporting Goods in Perryville (501-889-2011) said the water is stained. Crappie are biting well on minnows and dark colored Bobby Garland Baby Shad. Largemouth bass are biting excellently in the backs of the coves on jigs and spinnerbaits. Spotted bass are being caught on white and yellow Rooster Tails, jig head grubs and finesse worms 10 feet deep. White bass have been around Jims Island and North Shore. Follow the loons and gulls and use grubs or spoons to catch the whites. Crappie are biting well on the edges of the channels in 20 to 25 feet of water on pink minnows and small grubs. Bream are slow on worms and red/white jigs fished 20 to 30 feet deep. Catfishing is slow on cut shad and prepared bait.

White River

Sportsman’s White River Resort (870-453-2424) said the water is low and clear. The weather has kept most anglers off the lake.

Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) had no report.

Guide Davy Wotton said fishing continues to be good despite the cold, rain and wind. Generation has been from zero to high levels. Water release from Bull Shoals Dam is still warm, which has somewhat retarded the brown trout spawn in the upper levels of the river. Nymph fishing techniques using white tail, prism and zebra midges in black, red, pearl and silver has been very productive. During high flows, try egg and worm patterns. Trophy browns may well hit a streamer along shorelines. Dry flies including Adams, BWO and elk hair caddis have worked well during low flows.

Jim Brentlinger at Linger’s Guide Service and Fishing Lodge(870-499-5185) said the fish are biting well when the water isn’t full of debris. The generation schedule has been erratic, with much fluctuation in water levels. Add in that the Buffalo River has risen 4 feet in the last day, causing muddy/murky water, and the bite has been erratic as well. Be sure to check the water conditions before making your trip. It can be very helpful in deciding where to fish.

Buffalo River

Just Fishing Guides said the water is high and muddy due to recent rains. It will take several days for the waters to recede. Water temperatures are in the upper 40s and low 50s, right at the point where fishing gets tough for smallmouth. That is not saying you can't catch them in the winter; it just gets tougher. With the snow and cold, we may have seen the last of our fishing for smallies until spring.

Crooked Creek

Just Fishing Guides said the water is high and muddy due to recent rains. It will take several days for the waters to recede. Water temperatures are in the upper 40s and low 50s, right at the point where fishing gets tough for smallmouth. That is not saying you can't catch them in the winter; it just gets tougher. With the snow and cold, we may have seen the last of our fishing for smallies until spring.

Bull Shoals Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 654.7 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 654 MSL).

Mike Worley’s Guide Service said crappie are biting over brush piles and standing timber along the bluffs. Jigs and jig/minnow combinations fished vertically are catching some good fish. Jigging spoons are catching a mixed bag of black and white bass and walleye about 35-55 feet deep on the drop offs of flats as well as bluff ends. Smallmouth and spotted bass have been biting well in shallow water on hula grubs and stick baits. Striped bass are biting on swimbaits and stick baits in shallow water. Large bluegills and yellow perch are biting around brush piles and out on the flat points on jigs tipped with a half of a night crawler.

Bull Shoals Tailwater

Just Fishing Guides said generation has been around the clock varying between 2 to 6 units. Nymphing and streamers are two of the more productive presentations. Seasonal flies include scuds, sow bugs, blue wing olives, micro caddis, midges, worm, egg and sculpin patterns.

Lake Norfork

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 551.76 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool: Sept.-April - 552 MSL, April-Sept. - 554 MSL).

Blackburn Resort had no report.

STR Outfitters said stripers have moved to their winter pattern; look for them in the main part of channels and creeks. They are roaming in big schools and very hard to follow. Most of the fish are in the 35- to 40-foot range in 50 to 80 feet of water. Shiners and small shad are working best.

Hummingbird Hideaway Resort said largemouth and smallmouth bass are moving up to the banks to feed early and late in the day. Stripers and whites are schooling and when you find the school you will catch fish. Some of these schools are breaking the surface at times. Anglers are catching crappie in 30 feet of water vertical jigging with a ¾-oz. spoon. The surface water temperature has fallen to the upper 50s. The main lake is clear (not as clear as normal) and the creeks and coves are still stained.

Guide Steve Olomon said the lake level is 551.2 and the water temp is in the upper 50s. Look for fish suspended 30-40 feet and drop a jigging spoon to them. Bass are hitting crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs. Throw a jig around brush piles and work it slowly. Try a drop shot with a 4-inch worm or small minnow-type bait. If you go out at night, throw a stick bait to the bank and reel it very slowly.

Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) had no report.

Norfork Tailwater

Randy Oliver at www.randyoliverguide.com (901-832-1903) had no report.

Just Fishing Guides said there have been periods of low water each day for wade fishers. Tan scuds have been hot lately. Small streamers without bead or cone heads producing a slower fall are working well also. Sow bugs, midges, worm and egg patterns should be in your arsenal as well.

Northwest Arkansas

Beaver Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 1,120.4 feet MSL (Normal conservation pool - 1,120 MSL).

Bailey’s Beaver Lake Guide Service (479-366-8664) said striper fishing is expected to be fair. Check several spots throughout the day as Beaver Lake Striper are avoiding runoff and looking for clearer water. Beaver lake striper will be fairly active with striper taken on live shad fished on free lines 150 feet behind the boat and on lightly weighted balloon lines trolled 50-100 feet behind the boat set 10 to 25 feet deep. Stripers will be active most of the day with peaks around sunrise, sunset and during generation. When fishing upriver, avoid the brown water and look for the greener water. Fish location is greatly influenced by lake level and current flow, current in the lake from generation will generally position fish on upstream or downstream edges of structure. Live shad in the 4- to 8-inch range are working well. The stripers are moving uplake. Stripers are being taken around Point 4, Lost Bridge South and the gravel bars near Point 5. Fishing has been fair in the Big Clifty arm. Stripers are biting fairly well in the deep water near the road bed in front of the marina in Rocky Branch. They are also showing up in Copper Mine and Larue around Cedar Creek, Ford Creek and Goat Island. Prairie Creek may be the best bet lately to avoid the muddy water and find active fish. Walleye are about 10 to 20 feet deep around points and islands near Rocky Branch, Prairie Creek and points 12, 9, 8 and 7. Flat-line trolling Hot-N-Tots, Rapala Tail Dancers, Shad Raps, Reef Runners and Ripstiks in blue, black back, clown or chartreuse/orange is working well. Jigging spoons fished around brush and rocks also are working.

JT’s Crappie Guide Service (479-640-3980) said bass can be caught using a hula grub or jig with a craw trailer around docks or timber along sloping chunk rock banks. Another option is to use a ½-oz. jigging spoon around pole timber in 20 to 45 feet of water along channels. Crappie fishing has been hit or miss. The best option has been to use either a live minnow or a pink/white or black/green tube on a 1/16-oz. jig head around brush or timber close to a channel in 15 to 35 feet of water. Fish have been holding very tight to the structure. Monte-Ne and Blue Springs have been good places to fish. White bass have been thick in Prairie Creek and Monte-Ne. They can be picked off by slow trolling a Bandit or Hot-N-Tot crankbait. Catfishing has been good from the bank late in the day using worms or liver. Highway 12 and 412 bridge accesses have both been good places to fish.

Southtown Sporting Goods (479-443-7148) said bass are good on a hula grub or jig-and-craw along sloping chunk rock banks near docks and timber. Another option would be using a 1/2 oz. jigging spoon around pole timber 20 to 45 feet deep. Crappie fishing has been slow. A tube jig or a minnow fished along brush piles or timber along a channel in 15 to 35 feet of water has worked best. Best jig colors continue to be pink/white, yellow/white and black/chartreuse. Fish have been holding very tight to piles and timber, so be sure to start fishing just off the bottom. Monte-Ne, Blue Springs and Eden Bluff have been good. White bass can be caught by slow trolling a Bandit or Hot ‘N’ Tot crankbait along channel drops in coves and along main lake flats. Point 12, Prairie Creek and Monte-Ne have all been good. Catfishing has been slow, but a few can be caught late in the day into the night from the bank using liver or worms.

Beaver Tailwater

Just Fishing Guides said there’s plenty of low water for wade fishing. The water has been off color but the fishing has been consistently good. A variety of flies are working including; Humpback Scud, BH Simple Sow, BH Flashback Pheasant Tail, all in sizes 12-16. Zebra Midge(grey, black, olive and red), size 18 and small streamers (size 8-12) including Wooly Bugger, Sparrow, .56'er and Zonker. Egg patterns are also working.

Lake Elmdale

Lucky Key at Duck Camp Fishing Retreat said bad weather and wind have kept most anglers off the lake. There were a few brave souls who reported catching a few bass on green pumpkin jig and pigs. A few people tried trolling for crappie, but had no luck.

Kings River

Just Fishing Guides said the water is high and muddy due to recent rains. It will take several days for the waters to recede. Water temperatures are in the upper 40s and low 50s, right at the point where fishing gets tough for smallmouth. That is not saying you can't catch them in the winter; it just gets tougher. With the snow and cold, we may have seen the last of our fishing for smallies until spring.

Millwood Lake

Mike Siefert at Millwood Lake Guide Service said the water rose dramatically last week, and is only 18 inches below normal pool. The discharge at the dam was 9,530 cfs on Monday. Use extreme caution navigating the lake as there is much debris in the water and the boat lanes are still too shallow to safely run on pad. Surface water temperatures dropped to 53-57 degrees. River Run East is still temporarily closed for maintenance and construction by the USACE until further notice. River Run West and Beards Lake are still open for recreation. The best bass crankbait bite over the last several weeks disappeared with all the incoming rising and muddy water. The only significant bite has been early to mid-afternoon, most locations lake-wide. Largemouth bass which were following very large schools of shad have scattered and gone deep with the increase in current, and rapidly rising muddy water. White bass and spotted bass also disappeared with the recent influx of muddy water. The increase of current and muddy water shut off the crappie bite as well. The crappie were biting good on jigging tiny hair jigs and also hitting minnows, in the clearest water you can locate from around 10 a.m. until early afternoon. Catfishing is good on trotlines, yo-yos and tight lines along current breaks in the outer bends of Little River. Blues and channel cats were biting Catfish Charlie, cut shad and chicken livers in 15-20 feet of water in Little River.

DeGray Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 403.84 feet MSL (Flood pool - 408 MSL).

Local angler George Graves said the surface water temperature is in the upper 50s. The lake is clear to Point 28 and stained to muddy in the upper reaches. Fishing has been slow the past few days due to the cold rainy weather. However before the rain, fishing was picking up nicely. Some good catches of bass were reported from Edgewood to Arlie Moore. The best pattern has been working the deep ledges (20 to 35 feet) with either a Texas-rigged worm or a heavy jig with plastic trailer. Look for deep drop offs on main-lake points and submerged creek channels. Best colors for both the worm and jig have been green pumpkin and crawfish patterns. Also some bass are now being caught on jigging spoons off the same points and ledges. Good areas for the spoon are the old creek channel ledges in Big Hill Creek. Use a 1-ounce spoon in white or chartreuse and keep it close to the bottom at 20 to 30 feet. Crappie fishing was pretty good before the big rain. Good catches were reported from deep attractors on the main lake. Look for brush in 20 to 25 feet of water from Edgewood to Caddo Drive and Arlie Moore. Fish a 1/16-ounce chartreuse jig head with a 2-inch Kalin’s Tennessee shad-colored grub vertically over the thickest part of the brush. Move very slowly and fish as close to the brush as possible without getting snagged. Snags will happen, so carry lots of jigs and grubs. With the transducer on the trolling motor and the sonar gain set up pretty high, you can see the lure on the graph which really lowers the snags. Don't forget the crappie nibble; it really helps in cold water. Some hybrids are showing up around Point 28 in water from 18 to 25 feet deep. Use the sonar to find the fish and use a small, ½-ounce silver jigging spoon such as a Hopkins Shorty, Strata Spoon or CC Spoon. Bream fishing is still good with the fish stacked in the same attractors that hold crappie. Bream will hold on the outside of the brush; just tight line a cricket or worm off the bottom.

Lake Nimrod

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 366.08 feet MSL.

Whiskers Sporting Goods (501-889-2011) said the water is stained. Crappie are biting well in the upper river 9 to 11 feet deep. Bream are slow.

Lake Bailey (Petit Jean Mountain)

Whiskers Sporting Goods (501-889-2011) said bream are fair on crickets and worms. Catfish are biting fairly well on worms.

Fourche La Fave River

Whiskers Sporting Goods (501-889-2011) said catfish are biting on stinkbait and chicken liver in the river. No report on any other species.

Lake Hinkle

Bill’s Bait Shop (479-637-7419) said the water is clear and high. No report on fishing conditions.

Lake Dardanelle

Regina Olson at Spadra Marina said fishing has been great in our area over the last few days. Crappie anglers are reporting limits on red/white and red/clear jigs. Minnow fishermen are reporting catching twice their daily limit and culling the smaller ones. The yellow bass have been biting the crappie rigs the last couple of days, and that is usually a sign that we’ll see bigger crappie soon. Catfish anglers are reporting limits, as long as you are willing to settle for one or two channels in the mix. Shad have been hard to find again, so we are seeing use of bass minnows and worms increase. No report on bass.

Blue Mountain Lake

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 408.34 feet MSL.

Lake Ouachita

As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation was 580.19 MSL (Flood pool - 578 MSL).

Larry Hurley from Poorman’s Guide Service said bass fishing is good with a lot of fish shallow in the flooded buck brush. Jigs and Texas-rigged brush hogs have been producing well. Stripers are fair but spotty; look for shad and try large spoons.

Trader Bill’s Outdoor Sports had no report.

Mountain Harbor Resort said the water is murky and 52-56 degrees. Largemouth bass are good watermelon or black/blue jigs. Spotted bass are excellent on drop-shotted finesse worms in 20 to 25 feet of water. Walleye are fair and being caught on bottom-bouncer jigs, spoons and deep-diving crankbaits trolled 25 to 35 feet deep around brush. Stripers are good on live bait and large hair jigs or crankbaits trolled 18-25 feet deep. Crappie are biting well near and over brush in 12 to 20 feet of water on minnows or Tennessee shad- and rainbow trout-colored crappie grubs. Catfish are good on cut bait and live bait on jug lines and trotlines from 20 to 30 feet deep.

Lake Hamilton

Trader Bill’s Outdoor Sports said the water is extremely swift as the lakes are being drawn back down after the heavy rains.

Lake Catherine

For weekly flow releases from Carpenter Dam, visit www.entergy.com/hydro.

Shane Goodner, owner of Catch’em All Guide Service, reports that Carpenter Dam tailrace has had swift current and open flood gates this week so little fishing has taken place. However, the area below the dam has returned to normal with only stained water left to deal with. The 5-foot drawdown has enabled wade fishermen to access areas that hold numbers of rainbow trout. Fly fishermen casting small streamers in white or gray are hooking trout near current. San Juan worms in red or pink have taken rainbows in the 14-inch range. Micro jigs fished under a strike indicator perfectly imitate threadfin shad. These small baitfish are a vital part of the diet of trout and other area species so anglers should use lures that resemble them. Spin fishermen are recording limits of trout on white or brown Rooster Tails over sandbars, as well as, the head and tail regions of shoals. Super Dupers in white or silver also are working well in periods of current. Boaters are urged to use caution when navigating the tailrace in low-water. Trolling small crankbaits in the main channel below the bridge has taken trout and white bass. Bank fishermen have caught the most trout using wax worms or meal worms fished under a bobber or just off the bottom with marshmallows. Live minnows have accounted for nice stringers of trout and white bass. While the turbines are running, white bass and crappie are actively feeding on injured shad. Jerk baits and small jigs are a good bet for catching these fish. Current flow is key, so anglers need to be aware of generation schedules. Stripers have been caught around the bridge in deep water on ¼-ounce white jigs and 5-inch soft plastics. As the trout stocking schedule becomes more regular, bigger striped bass will be present in search of an easy meal.

Lake Atkins

Lucky Landing (479-641-7615) said crappie are still being caught well on jigs and minnows. Bream are biting fairly well on worms. Bass are slow. Catfishing is fair. A few white bass have been caught as well. The lake rose quickly with the 5 inches of rain that fell Monday night.
