Randy, I've got to get down to Assateague. My buddy is down that way all the time. Says it is sweet
I have a Delaware Seashore plate for my Jeep, that's where I do most of my fishing. North of the IRI. Mostly rockfish and an ocassional big blue Fall is right around the corner, lookout fish! I have the same 11'6 rod but I have a Penn 8500 on it All I ever have used is cut bait I guess I need some more surf rods

I usually use a sphero by shimano for the spinning reel and a speedmaster on a 11' custom rod by Chaos. My main targets with the spinner is snook and tarpon and with the conventional I usually get mutton and mangrove snapper, bluefish, mackeral, spinner and blacktip sharks, etc... We don't have to cast that far way down south here..

I live in W. Ft. Lauderdale. Tonight I'm headed over to Tampa to fish the skyway bridge and then work the Florida Sportsman show. One of my favorite shows to work as I get to fish till I drop ever night till Monday. After that it's back to making lures and spreader bars.
Come on over, the weather is great during the winter... |

Back when I used to surf fish alot, my favorite was an old school 11' Magnuflex Hatteras Heaver w/ an Ambassadeur 9000C reel for Red Drum, and I had a Daiwa Sealine 10' med. action rod w/ an Ambassadeur 6500C3 for whiting, spots, and pompano.
For speckled trout fishing I had several different set ups. For casting bobbers and live shrimp, I used an Ambassadeur 5000C w' an 8' Fenwick HMX casting rod in med. action. For Mirrolures, I threw a 7'6" Fenwick HMX rod in Med. light action w/ either a Penn 4400SS or a Silstar Vertex reel(look em up...great reel for cheap). For grubs and Paddle tails, I used an 8' Fenwick HMX rod in light action w/ a Penn 4300SS or a Daiwa Black Gold Series reel. Man, this brought back memories for me. I spent many days and nights from Oct. - Feb. casting lures in the cold for trout. Last edited by Capt_John; 09-26-2008 at 12:46 PM. |

My surcaster is a 10' Tica (throws a 2-8 oz) with an Avet mx reel. I usually use fresh chunked mullet.
Once I got my surf rod planted I use a St. Croix 7' (med-lite power mod-fast action) with a Penn 450ssg reel, 15lb test with lightest weight I can possibly get away with, which I can toss all day long. Using mud minnows, I catch just about anything thats hungry, or not! |
