When is enough enough? Is it fine to sit at your computer and aim a gun hundreds of miles away in another state alright as well? When we get idiots doing things like that, we are all guilty to the antis because we are all hunters. There is of course the thought of some ruining it for all. If we can't govern ourselves who do we expect to do it? I think the rules of "fair chase" aren't too restrictive. I think we have bigger fish to fry in NY though. From what I have read, the closing of the last pheasant hatchery is only the beginning. According to you, Mr G can't see the forest from the trees. What big picture is he missing? The antis? Are you upset with Tred because he is airing his thoughts in a public forum that the antis could use to fuel their fires? If so it seems the pot is calling the kettle black(I know a few idioms as well). Nothing wrong with a colloquy to get others thoughts, but of what use is it to attack Tred personally?
Where do you hail from Mr. Joe? The name calling is uncalled for.Yes, I'm sitting at my computor engaging people like yourself, so what . What I'm trying to do here is just over your head, so if you need to have me help you understand you have to open and clear your mind first.I find it hard to answer your questions when you answer them yourself but, if you take the time and read and think you might see the light come on.
Yeah your right about one thing, losing that pheasant hatchery was a big blow to sportsman here in new york, I can't think of one reason why a hunter from out of state would come to new york to hunt. The state has nothing to offer to the hunter. Our DEC is in a shambles for sure.
Again your misunderstanding the whole thing, I have nothing against Mr. Barta, I'm not attacking him personally at all. What I'm doing is challenging his statements plain and simple.
As far as enough is enough I, will never stop fighting for our right to hunt and bear arms I'm sorry but, I just can't get enough of the sport and what joy it brings me and you, so if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen....
I am from western NY. I am willing to fight for the privilege of hunting as well. I am not doubting you would also. I guess I am missing your point though. I guess I'm not as enlightened. This forum is for hunters and fishermen. Judging by the posts, most of us enjoy the outdoors, mainly hunting. I don't think there are a lot on antis on this forum. What is wrong with Tred, according to you, discussing his thoughts on the direction hunting is going. Do we all have to agree on everything if we are hunters?
I'm always doing something with hunting 24/7 no matter what, a day doesn't go by that somehow I do or say something postive about hunting to anyone that will listen.I have been up against the anti's more times than I would like to remember and needless to say I don't have much respect for them and there points, and they will not rest till they crush us and for you to belive they don't view hunting sites for any information you are sadly mistaken. What the big picture here is, the way that Tech video is presented is wrong , what I mean by wrong is the way this video carries on about the negative views and statements that are made and will be taken the wrong way, those statements would and will put a smile on the faces of the antis. Like I have said before there is a huge difference between someones opinion and a statement of conviction that video without any doubt is a statement of conviction from Tred on his what HE belives to BE TRUE, not his thoughts or opinion or sounding board.Thats my problem. You stated that all hunters can't agree on everything, your right and I don't expect anything different, but, when it comes to our right to hunt and to bear arms then we better all get together no matter what and stop all of the bickering. Tell me, whats really wrong with most of us getting along and maybe even agree on most of the issues and problems out there today that concern our sport. That video is wrong, plain and simple. I can't make it any clearer than that Joe.
Bearhunter-
I don't come across many antis in my daily life. I fact I can't think of many "discussions" I've had we these people. In the somewhat rural community that I live in, hunting for food and sport is not just accepted, it is also appreciated. Because of that, I guess I am out of touch with the amount of pressure and strength the antis are appling and gaining in their fight. I too am thinking of hunting daily. I shoot my bows(compounds and traditional!) 4-5 times a week in my basement, and work on our property in the southern tier throughout the spring and summer. My wife thinks I have issues. I have a young family and therefore can't afford the time or money to go out of state on guided or extravagant hunts. So most of it is limited to the NY big game seasons. There are millions of people out there who know a great deal more than me on most issues, hunting included, but I got on the post to explain how hunting this season traditionally was an amazing and rewarding experience. I know you and I saw the video two different ways, but I found Tred's thoughts about young hunters and declining numbers interesting. Again I like Tred because of the passion he has for what he does, it seems we too have a passion for hunting or we wouldn't be beating this dead horse.
As a fellow New Yorker, I'm sure you have heard todays news about the appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand to the Senate and that she is Pro gun and a member of the NRA. Then here comes Long Island Congresswoman Rep. Carolyn McCarthy to make this statement and I quote "one way or another we're not going to be having an NRA member representing New York." Now is'nt that nice, this is what I have been trying to explain to you about the anti's, now this woman will not sleep or eat till see finds away to wreck our pastime. I really hope the NRA does something about this nonsense. I know that woman went through a bad time with her family and I feel for her but, what if there were a few people on that train that had legal carry permits and saved the day what would have to say then, I know it didn't happen that way but, if, the gun laws weren't so tough maybe it could have ended a better way or better yet not happened at all. Always be ready it doesn't matter where you live and how rural it maybe. About this video, were not beating a dead horse at all, we are chewing on the facts and went back and forth in a calm manner which is a good thing, Tred's passion as you put it shouldn't be force feeding us on this video, if, archery hunters want to use any type of equippment so be it, if, gun hunters want to use air guns, in-line muzzleloaders, flintlocks, black guns, pink guns, AK 47's with scopes that tell you what you might to need to know than so be it. If, you shoot from 5 feet to 1000 yards while hunting and kill your game, that way so what, you want to use gadgets, use them, encourage them all because we need them all in our sport for sure. Tred has a problem with that and that's wrong. On the lighter side Mr. Joe; do you do any bear in your area? I laughed when you said your wife thinks you have issues , well you could imagine how my wife thinks about me. Find a way to get out there and live your hunting dreams before it's to late, you will regret it, I know how tough it is believe you me but, you just have to make a commitment to yourself and stick to it. Good hunting.
I have not bear hunted yet. They are now fairgame in our DMU though. There have been local reports of sightings but I vaen't heard of anyone taking one. It is good to see they are most likely changing their minds about the pheasants. Interesting Patterson's choice to replace Hillary is Hillary's college roomate's daughter. What deals have been made? Sounds a bit like Blago. I agree with you as far as sticking together. Is someone legally takes any animal with any legal weapon it is fine by me. I guess I liked the challenge of going traditional. I commented on the post because of that and Tred's message about the decline in numbers. I guess it was a bit naive of me to think the antis would be checking forums like this. Hoping to get out after some grouse this week before 4/1 deadline. Ice fished sodus point this weekend. I had a blast.
Hey Mr. Joe:
I guess it's the way Tred tries to convince the world he hunts what he calls the hard way and then throughs in the longbow well, needless to say, it gets me talking to myself, that man has a total misunderstanding of the real world, these TV guys all live in a big money world of their own. Hey, you have to get out there and hunt some bear, your area should have alot of promise, look real hard for the nasty swamps and the thickest and darkest cedar thickets and you will find Mr. Bear. Yes, the longbow is fun to use, there is a hunter, outfitter that has a tv show that hunts with the longbow and the recurve that is the best out there now for sure, his name is Fred Eichler. I first started with a longbow but, I don't see why everyone says it's such a hard weapon to hunt with, I have been with hunters that have the best equippment money can buy and they still come home empty but, they all can target hunt better than most just like Tred but, when crunch time comes forget about it they crumble. Grouse hunting is a good time for sure, we have been hitting the yotes really hard and with the snow on the ground it makes things a little bit easier.I was with some hunting friends in MN. and I did some ice fishing in Northern MN, well let me tell you I thought I would freeze to death, 40 below straight up in fact the warmest day was 10 below, yeah you use ice houses but so what it is just to cold to do anything, I will wait till ice out and wear my shorts and tee shirt. You see the statements by Gillibrand today, she wants to do something about gun control but, not hurt hunters, watch out. The deals that must of went on behind closed doors. I really hope they get this phesant problem taken care of the only problem is we need more support from the hunters.Hey, lets star a new debate ///// What type of Broadheads do you use, I will kick it off by saying that I only use expandables, Grim Reaper, the best there is.
