Do you really think that is the truth ?????

Please take a look at what the genral cat quota was for 2007. Then go back and look what was landed in the tourneys. Unreported catches will continue to paint false pictures.

I'm certainly not vouching for the validity of NMFS I am merely trying to show the type of very interesting info available on the site. If you review my post regarding commercial fisherman I think you'll find we're on the same side. As for everyone else what type of info would you like to see? Perhaps some ICCAT info? Let me know as I'm familiar with were to look in the massive website!

One of the biggest problem in marine fisheries mangment is reporting and lack of it.

We on the comm side have to be very accurte in our reorting. Or we are subject to very stiff fines or lose of permits.

The Rec side relies on nothing more then a crap shoot. This has nothing to do with you the rec fishermen, I'm not pointing a finger at rec anglers. I am blamming the data collection system that is used. Every bit of information that has been taken should be thrown out and they should start from scratch.

Picker I feel that data collection is flawed on both sides, badly. Most of the charter Capts. down my way run at least 2 boats, I run 3. We have a random reporting program. They will call me up and ask if I ran the big boat that week when its been blowing like stink and what I wound up doing is running the little boat so I could make a living. They don't want to know what I did on the little boat, only the big boat, so they lose "True" data on what I actually caught. Seems wrong to me to do it that way...
Seems to me that they would be better off knowing what that Capt. caught that week more than knowing what a certain boat caught...truer data...

I think you are right. Unfortunately I guess they only have the HMS Permit issued to the boat and not the captain. I got one of those calls last week - I was amazed as how clueless the guy asking the questions was, and how focused the questions were on ONLY Tuna, Billfish and sharks. I typically catch more Mahi, Wahoo and Kings - but not a single question about the "rest of my catch", not a single question about the gear I use, and not a single question about the bait.

The system truly seems flawed.
