Hello

My name is Marty Buzas aka Fishpicker. I am a very proud member of the comm fishing sector , I own a gillnet / long line boat that is based out of Wildwood NJ. I am an advisor for several different species of fish at several pot boats , Clam boats , Scallop boats , inshore and offshore draggers and naturally long line and Gillnet. Shark fishing ( all types ) is a fisherie that I have excelled in, along with Menhaden , Bluefish, Weakfish and Croakers.

I have asked the owner of this site to give our industry a platform to share, discuss and hopefully educate the members of this fourm on the finer points of how the Comm industry works.

My mission is to bridge the gap that exists between the Comm and Rec industries. This is not a place to bash or belittle one another. Both sides might not always agree but we better start realizing that we are not each other's enemy. The real enemy is the enviromentalists that don't want ANYBODY to catch or eat any form of fresh seafood.

As we have been fighting between each other, enviro groups like the PEW Trust have been gaining a stronghold in the fishery managment system and are slowly but surely and succesfully taking our livelyhoods and passions away from us.

What I would like to offer is the ability to answer any questions that you have about our side of the tracks. I have many friends along the East and West coast that are always willing to lend a helping hand. I would also like to keep the viewers of this forum informed on the attacks that are waged against us on a daily basis.

Please enjoy this forum and please treat other members/ posters how you would like to be treated !!!!!!

I look forward to any questions you may have.

Hey Picker.

Very well stated write up. I agree wholeheartedly about the recs and comms needing to join together. I think your views are spot on and look very forward to the discussions this could lead to. I for one have many questions and concerns regarding the radical enviromentalist and the laws they are spearheading. I hope everyone heeds your request to treat each other respectfully, regardless of different opinions and feelings. This forum could lead to many positive things. Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up

Well stated Picker!!
For those of you who don't know the man. Marty, is the local self made liason between the recs and commercials. He is very involved in the politics side of the fight and is well respected on both sides of the aisle. Besides that he's a great guy with a crazy sense of humor
Nice work Marty and Admin, this forum can only benefit ALL fishermen!!

I have never had a conversation with a picker before. Here it goes. My first question, if you please. Mr. Picker, do you supply the major striper tournaments with bunker in the new Jersey area.

Thanks ...wazzupz
