Caught 44 tuna in the two days before the 4th of July 07 off Tillamook Bay, Oregon. My brother and I took the kids out and slayed 'em.
Trolled jet heads at 6-8 knots 19 miles off shore. However, we saw a huge school at 12 miles on the way back Last edited by Jer; 11-22-2007 at 12:13 AM. Reason: resized the picture |

What is Your season for Tunas out there in OR and what kind can you catch?...(those look like albacores)
I thought the waters might be a lil to cold for most pelagics |

Well since he hasn't been back since posting the report, I'll help him out and answer for him. The albacore usually show up in Oregon around the middle of June and can be caught into October and sometimes November. Usually the storms line up and Oct & Nov are difficult to get out. 99% of the pelagics caught here are albacore. There are a few bluefin caught and several mahi and yellowtails were caught this summer. A few striped marlin were spotted and hooked but none were landed this season (that I heard of). The albies typically average 18-24 pounds with the larger models being 35-40. Oregon has a 25 tuna per day limit per person and Washington has no limit.

Thank You TT
Living where i do i know the east coast quite well. I also hear a lot about the yellowfin out of So. Cal. I thought the waters that far north were to cold but,...Sounds like your fishery is a lot richer than I realized |

Warm water here means 65 degrees. The yellowtail / mahi and striped marlin are considered exotics here. If you catch one, it'll be the talk of the dock. I didn't want it to sound like it was normal to catch those. The albacore fishing is off the hook. The limiting factor seems to be how much can you hold.
