Well since he hasn't been back since posting the report, I'll help him out and answer for him. The albacore usually show up in Oregon around the middle of June and can be caught into October and sometimes November. Usually the storms line up and Oct & Nov are difficult to get out. 99% of the pelagics caught here are albacore. There are a few bluefin caught and several mahi and yellowtails were caught this summer. A few striped marlin were spotted and hooked but none were landed this season (that I heard of). The albies typically average 18-24 pounds with the larger models being 35-40. Oregon has a 25 tuna per day limit per person and Washington has no limit.
Living where i do i know the east coast quite well. I also hear a lot about the yellowfin out of So. Cal. I thought the waters that far north were to cold but,...Sounds like your fishery is a lot richer than I realized
Warm water here means 65 degrees. The yellowtail / mahi and striped marlin are considered exotics here. If you catch one, it'll be the talk of the dock. I didn't want it to sound like it was normal to catch those. The albacore fishing is off the hook. The limiting factor seems to be how much can you hold.
Or how many do you want to clean Albies that is what's for lunch. We also get Mako's and threshers up in the Northwest, and the commercial boys wak the swordfish by the tonnage!!!PEACE
Let me get my buddy over at noaa to dig me up the landing charts it is pretty cool info concerning the areas fished and how many were caught it is public knowledge but will take me a day or to to dig up the info, I will make sure yoe get it thou , I'm calling him now!!!PEACE
