Sacramento River Salmon - Wind and leaves made salmon fishing tough earlier this week. There are still fall run salmon in the Sacramento, but not the numbers of a few weeks ago. Key to success now is to find a school of moving salmon and stay on them. There are more dark fish now that we saw last week, but, still some brighter fish coming through. I know this is going to sound a little strange having just returned from the Rogue in Gold Beach, OR, but....I just can't wait for some good drenching rains to bring up the big late fall run salmon. A few new bright fish are showing up, but we need a good rain to bring up the bulk of the run.

Sacramento River late fall run king salmon are a unique run of kings that starts now, with the bulk of the run shooting straight up the river after the first set of drenching rains of November. The late fall run kings will fish strong until the end of season on Dec 18th. Most trophy salmon caught on the Sacramento are late fall run king salmon. For some unknown reason, this run has a higher percentage of 4 - 7 yr. salmon than does the early fall run. Fresh and full of fight, these salmon are worth showing up for! We still have some good opening in early December if you want to go trophy fishing with us.

Shasta Lake Landlocked Salmon and Trout - We had a fantastic season on Shasta Lake. This is best action that we have seen on 3 - 5 lb. salmon and trout on Shasta ever! We are now targeting much bigger fish - Rogue River salmon. But, if you have a boat and downriggers, get on up to Shasta and get in on the action. These salmon will not make their spawning run until at least late Sept, so you still have time. On our last trips, we were catching quality fish on anchovies soaked in Pautzke's Nectar and krill behind Seps Watermelon and Fruit Salad dodgers.

Sacramento River Steelhead & Wild Trout Fly and Conventional Gear Fishing - Jason Thatcher is back and available to take you fly fishing on the Sacramento. Contact us or Jason to book your fly fishing adventure. A great year round fishery just a short drive from Sacramento or the Bay Area, Sacramento River's wild rainbow trout provide just the cure for cabin fever . Whether on the fly or conventional gear, these acrobatic fish put on a great show. As long as the river stays clear we are having fairly good success on micro mayfly imitating with the occasional rubberleg bite.
