Captain Drew and myself are taking the Pacific Queen up to the Central Coast to fish Albacore this fall. I wanted to inform everyone about what is going on up there since there has been very little information about Central Coast Albacore due to the lack of sportboat coverage. I spent the better part of the last 4 days gathering information from various commercial Albacore sources as well as some friends of mine that have private boats that fish out of Monterey.

As far as the guys that fish out of Monterey, they have pretty much consistently for 7 weeks now, any time they get out around that Davidson area, they have been catching anywhere from 25 to 50 fish a boat and that is for 2 to 4 Anglers with NO LIVE BAIT. They are pretty much going out there and filling up their coolers and then going home. It has been that way for an extended period of time.

We don't have any information as far as fish catches coming out of there on sportfishing boats because there haven't been any that we know of that have gone out there. There have been small private boats and there have been commercial jig boats. Obviously we are not hearing about that commercial jig fishing. But I did get information that there was a jig boat fishing the Davidson over a week ago that had a 400 fish day all on trolling feathers. So that is very, very impressive.

I just got off the phone with Chad Woods, he told me that the Kahuna with 11 people from the Monterey area had 71 Albacore yesterday. I also got a text message from my friend that is very tied in to the private boat fleet that has been fishing Albacore. He sent me a text message last night that said everyone had 30+ fish that went out there. It was good fishing again yesterday.

From what I have learned there is a tremendous body of fish up there. It's the real deal, it is not a little bit here and there where one guy randomly catches 30 fish. It's good fishing. And it stretches up north quite a ways.

To make a long story short, I'm fired up and excited about getting up there. We are going to go up there with the Pacific Queen and 150 scoops of live bait and 20 to 30 people and we're going to catch some Albacore. We'll be up there starting next Friday. Because of where the fish is, it is just over 80 miles from Avila Beach, we are going to be scheduling 1.5 Day Trips. This will give us the ability to fish the Davidson area.

Our first 1.5 Trip is scheduled for Friday night the 7th, fishing Saturday the 8th. This will be our 1st trip out of Patriot. We are going to be doing 1.5 Day Trips where we fish Saturday, fish Monday and fish Thursday. We are leaving at 8:00 PM and returning at 8:00 AM. All of our trips will be out of Patriot Sportfishing in Avila Beach. The number to Patriot Sportfishing is 805-595-7200. We will be running straight 1.5 day until we feel the fish are close enough for us to make a substantial catch in the 1 day range.

On our way up we have a 2 Day Trip out of Ventura Harbor. We will be departing at 6:00 PM on the 5th. We will fish the 6th and 7th returning into Avila Beach on the 7th. We have that 2 Day trip priced at $425. If you are interested in this trip call Ventura Sportfishing at 805-676-fish.

We are very excited about our prospects for catching Albacore on the Central Coast. This could be the year we have all been waiting for. Hopefully you can all partake in what looks to a very promising Fall. We will be calling in live fish reports as often as needed to our website to keep everyone up to date on our findings.

Wish us Luck!
