Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT Jan. 30 to Feb. 6, 2011
SUMMARY: We had a lot of rain during the week but most rivers held their shape. The
Skeena River is in good shape but full of ice flows and frozen over in spots. Be very
careful walking on the ice ledges! There may be some Steelhead wintering over in
some locations. The Trout and Dolly Varden Char are available year round. The Kalum
River came up a little bit but is still in good shape. The Zymoetz (Copper) River is
coloured up and fishing for Steelhead is slow. The upper section closed for fishing on
January 1st. The Lakelse River is in fair shape and fishing for Steelhead and Trout
should be Ok now since the weather warmed up. Lake ice fishing has started and the
fishing is good. Beware of thin ice! Kitimat River: Early this week we endured sub
zero temperatures and the onslaught on Ice Rain. Where we parked our vehicles for a
couple hours, we had to chip the ice off our windshields. Mid week’s warmer
temperatures combined with clean river conditions produced good numbers on Trout.
The weather warmed up and we received some rain the river was high and dirty at the
time of this Report. (Friday) Douglas Channel; The colder temperatures and the Ice
Rain deterred boaters from venturing out. Warmer temperatures are forecast for the
weekend which may encourage some boaters to venture. Check out the Ron Wakita
report below. Prince Rupert has fantastic Winter Chinook fishing, weather depending. If
you would like to book a comfortable, warm Charter Boat for Winter Chinook and
Dungeness Crab in Kitimat or Prince Rupert please contact me
