wasnt sure where to ask this question but hows the fishing in Kona in April for bill fish? any info would be helpful or referrals on whose available to book for fishing...could be May too not sure, just trying to find the right time next year second quarter...let me know any response would help. If there is a better place to ask on the website please advise...gotta love us newbies...
While the spring months aren't the best for numbers of blue marlin often some of the biggest ones for the year are caught during that time. Seems like around the full moon and to slightly lesser extent the new moon is the best action, we start getting the major low in the morning and major high in the afternoon. It takes some patience though but when you get the bite they seem to be eating well, hookup good and the average size is 400++. Spearfish are usually around in good numbers during this time and will provide extra rigger rattling and BBQ fodder as well as the odd mahi mahi and some early ahi of 100lb plus. I find it wise to only troll heavy tackle during this time as there are granders around in spring.
this past spring on the full moon phase I had a 4 day trip and we caught a 450+ blue on day one, had a couple other bites from other similar sized blues on the other days and caught 4 or 5 spearfish as I recall. The same day we caught the 450 another boat caught a 900+. On the moon in May We fished a client for three days and had great luck with the blues catching 4, 150, 350, 550 and 575 from 7 shots, the three we missed or pulled the hooks on all looked over 400+. Along the way we caught 6 spearfish and couple mahi mahi. There was another 900+ caught around that time as well. The full moon phase in June was my favorite though as 2 days before the full we caught a 1064 blue. Still the biggest of the year so far here.
Patience and confidence is key to success during this time frame as it's easy to get suckered out of the best marlin turf to chase tuna or whatever and then your basically just getting lucky when you do find a marlin. I fish my favorite big fish haunts for the current direction, put the blinders on when when I here others finding stuff way out wide and definately stick to the best holes during the tides, works for me!

Our full day rate is $800.00 and you can bring up to 6 people, the boat is yours, no other shares or strangers,except for myself and deckhand of course. We provide everything you'll need for the day fishing except for your food and drink which can be had easily right at the deli above the dock where I pick you up in the morning. On my full days we usually leave around 6:30am and return around 4:00 or 4:30.
We are wide open in april so far and would love to have you aboard and catch a fatty.
awesome as soon as i have my plans finalized i will be giving you a call and thanks for the testimonial, I happen to be a lucky charm for some reason so i feel good about the bill fish, its my thing and i enjoy the ****out of it...not to mention digging the sun, laying out, and you had better watch out for my fish dance...inside joke but seems to work...talk atcha soon, cant wait to get back to paradise....
