Current Report:

Saturday, the wind came and brought much cooler weather than we had been experiencing for the last week. We want to thank all of you who came to see us at Hap's Bait for the all day seminar. The winds made it interesting but the seminars were all terrific. On Sunday, the Fish 'n' Fool IV took a few anglers out to catch stripers and they didn't want to keep any of the fish. They caught and released 13 stripers trolling the west bank of the Sacramento River from Decker Island down toward Broad Slough. The biggest fish was 10 lbs. and the rest of the stripers were all keepers averaging 5 pounds. The anglers had a ball catching these stripers. The best time of the bite was an hour or two into the incoming tide and most of the fish were caught within a couple of hours. We marked some nice fish in all the areas. Today, we had a small charter out for striper bait fishing. It turned out to be a real good day. The bullheads were definately the best bait. Shad was the other bait we were running but it didn't have very much success. We were fishing below Pittsburg in about 18 feet of water. During the outgoing tide we had a lot of action catching stripers to 7 pounds. The stripers are beginning to make their way into the delta and the action should continue to get better and better. Now, that the wind is calming down there should be some real good reports about sturgeon fishing too. This is the time of the year that we love to fish. Only, one more week and the Rio Vista Bass Derby will be here. There should be lots of stripers, salmon and sturgeon in the area for the derby. If you want to get in on some of this fishing, give us a call.
