First Hawaii Trip

Hey guys,

I'm about to take my first trip out to Hawaii and will be staying on Oahu. Most of what I see on line tells me I need to be fishing out of Kona instead. I plan on taking a charter while over there and am looking for some input. I will be there in early May.

Is Kona definitely the way to go?
Any past experiences with charter captains in the area or recommendations?

have not fished ohau so i cant comment. i once did a day trip over to the big island to fish and its very doable. caught my ist ahi on that trip. as far as kona goes its a great place with many options for charters. do a search "kona charters" for a list of captians. prices varies depent on size of boat. (550/1200). cost isnt an indication of their ability to pull fish.

its best to narrow a list down according to price range and contact them direct. if you go thru the charter desk they take their cut and past the rest to the boat. dont try to cut the price, its not something they take kindly to.

may is getting into the prime months. marlin,ahi,dolphin and wahoo are targeted.
