We're looking forward to a forecasted week of stable weather and the return of predictable fishing and flows on the Trinity River. We've had a lot of foul weather this fall and the Trinity has already blown out in whole or part three times. These storms have brought a lot of fish into the river. While we've had a few days with high water and tough fishing, we've had many more days with great water conditions and very good fishing. Fish are spread out from Lewiston to Junction City and beyond. The Upper Rogue has been fishing very well this fall - see the first two photos above. The steelhead have been grabby and eager to take Dirk Wigglers and other big leech patterns on the swing. The Lower Sac is fishing very well from Redding all the way down through Red Bluff. Flows are around 6000cfs and bridge construction is almost complete at Cypress Bridge, so everything is back to normal in terms of floating options. There is a good egg grab from Redding down through the Sac RV Park area, but not many salmon spawning below Anderson. Fortunately the bite is still good down there on regular nymph patterns and there are a few steelhead around also. I just spent a great day of dry fly fishing and sight fishing on the Lower River with Charlie from Ord Bend. We had rising fish to cast to for almost 4 hours mid-day! We've also had some very good reports from the Feather River this fall. There are good numbers of salmon spawning and consequently the steelhead fishing is good. The lower Feather is best in November, so book a trip soon if you're interested.

Opening Day is Dec 4th! We are less than a month away from Opening Day on this exciting new trophy trout fishery. Formerly known as Mt. FYI, we've changed our daily schedule and the lakes are now open every day of the week. We will schedule three rest days a week around our booked days and we will try to ensure that the lakes aren't fished more than two days in a row. We limit attendance to 5 anglers per day.
Openings in December:
Dec 5 (one spot), Dec 10 (one spot), Dec 11 (one spot), Dec 13 (3 spots), Dec 15-16 (2 spots), Dec 19-23 (5 spots), Dec 27-30 (5 spots)

Trinity River

Steelhead season is just getting under way on the Trinity River. The Trinity is the most productive steelhead river in California. Due to the relatively small size of the upper part of the river, it’s possible to fish trout techniques for these big fish. Below Junction City and down through Willow Creek, the river is considerably larger and has some incredible swing water. We guide the whole river from Lewiston down to Hoopa, utilizing indicator, high-stick, and spey techniques to catch these magnificent fish.

Upper Rogue River
Gold Ray Dam is history and the Rogue now has 150 miles of free-flowing salmon and steelhead habitat. Jon Hazlett will be guiding on the Upper Rogue through early December, swinging flies for summer steelhead. The Rogue has been very productive this year. Jon’s signature “Dirk Wiggler” and “Skinny Wiggler” patterns are producing a lot of fish.

Lower Sac
Late fall and winter is a great time to fish the Lower Sac. Steelhead are present in the lower river. King salmon are spawning and trout go crazy as the famous "egg grab" starts. Flows recede to wadeable levels. This is an extremely popular time to fish the Lower Sac, and for good reason. Be sure to book your trip soon! For an easy trip with lots of action, the Lower Sac is always hard to beat.

Southern Oregon Coast
The southern Oregon Coast is our playground for big wild winter steelhead. The Lower Rogue River is our showpiece destination, with countless riffles and runs prime for swinging flies with spey rods. We are the only fly fishing outfitter with a permit that allows us to jet boat upstream into the Wild and Scenic section of the river. We also float the Lower Rogue and other nearby rivers in our drift boats and rafts. On many days we leave the boats behind and drive to multiple destinations, sampling the best runs on two or more rivers in a single day. The southern Oregon Coast has tremendous variety and is consequently a very reliable steelhead destination. Our prime time in this area is from January through March.
