I am friens with the guys on the boat.....
Yes it was cheating in my view. Come one- no lines or teasers, NO CHUM EITHER.
It was on a circle hook I know that.

so i guess boats with squids painted on their bottoms are illegal.....
sure it is painted to ATTRACT....sounds like a teaser to me....
so future rule.....any boat with squids painted on bottom NOT allowed on fishing grounds until after lines in call......
yes a chumming is a teaser/feed source used to lure/attract fish.....
i believe it is ILLEGAL to set up a chumslick prior to lines in call.....WMO or any tourney for that matter needs to re-write rules so ALL are on SAME page no TACTICAL ADVANTAGE for any boat/angler......NO EXCEPTIONS...
wow seems like a chum post may have opened a can of worms for a $$$ winning boat

You know my original sentiments on circles. The rule was made and I had to make the switch. No I still don't like uncle sam telling me how to fish but it is the rule.
You hit on a point here though and here is what I have observed... Other than the live bait sailfish tournaments where I see pretty much 100% compliance the bulk of the tournies I have fished since the rule went into effect have been the other way.
In the islands we fished one last year and without patting myself on the back we were one of perhaps only three teams I saw running circle. Yes in the islands you're still required to run them as you carry a US HMS permit...
I have seen it in the major northern events too. Not to the extent of what I saw in the islands but a very large number none the less still rigging with J. The rule might be in place but a large number of folks aren't following it. Sometimesits the individuals but at least in the islands I saw tourney officials turn their head and look the other way.
Its a strange rule. Put in place not to protect fish but to quell a lawsuit about HMS never taking action to protect the whites. So there it is on the books. A rule with no real penalty or enforcement. Personally I don't think it should be there for the "Big Brother" reason stted above but as long as it is, people should obey it...
i read the post on the "other" site that spurred this discussion- I am also curious about the double hook rig that pulled the day before.... was it 2 circle hooks in a shark bait?
I don't mind circle hooks, but I hate the fact that it is mandated-
Good call Franky. I've never seen a double circle rig but you never know. How about from here on out we make it a trolling tournament anyway. It still amazes me that people either dont know the rules or just don't care.
I am curious....so if this "not" considered a violation as a few believe, are those in the WMO that target the tuna Calcutta leaving the inlet at 4am and starting your chunk at 5:30am or 6am when you arrive on the tuna grounds???
