Question for anyone that might know, Does everyone on the boat have to be registered on the "count my fish" thing or will everyone be covered under the HMS permit???
Just wanting to make sure things are straight before I come up there.
Thanks,

We are taking no chances... We all have the count my fish as well as the boat having HMS permit. I am exempt from the count my fish by virtue of having a Florida license but I'm not counting on anyone knowing that so even I went and got the card. It doesn't cost anything... get one for every person on the boat...
The way I understand it, the Holder of the HMS permit is exempt from the NOAA card, the boat is covered by the HMS permit for legalities, and each angler in MD has to have the NOAA card except if they hold their own HMS permit for their own boat, or a license from another state in compliance with the count my fish thing.
SO since its free, anyone who doesn't get the NOAA card is retarded to even take a chance on a rule interpretation in the WMO.
If someone looses the purse this year for not having the NOAA card, there shall not be a trial, there should be no deliberations, they should immediately be shot.
Thanks guys.
I got mine in the mail yesterday but wanted to make sure for everyone else. Its been an argument between some of my friends about weather they need it or not. I said just do it its free. If your on my boat you will show it to me Sunday evening or dont come to the boat Monday morning.
COrrect me if I am wrong, but I think that the boats HMS permit covers everyone if it is a CHARTER Boat. In the private boat setting everyone needs one, except the boat/permit owner.
Here's a question for you capt Franky, The Marlin Magic is a charter boat, but during the tournament we fish as a private boat with the owner. Do Marty and I need a permit, do the anglers need a permit? if we have a HMS permit that says we are a charter boat
According to the website, the following are exempt from the MRIP;
If you have any doubts, go register...
- Highly Migratory Species Angling permit
- Commercial fishing license or permit issued by NOAA Fisheries or a state/territory
- Subsistence fishing license or permit issued by NOAA Fisheries or a state/territory
- A saltwater recreational fishing license or registration issued by one of the following states/territories: Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, California, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Washington
Anthony- I am pretty sure you are a charterboat all day every day once you register that way. Really, though, when it comes down to it, you and marty should have one because I am sure you dunk a line on boats or from places that aren't covered by the Marlin MAgic HMS permit. Boggy and I got ours because we fish on the blackjack some and I got one for my mom and dad just cause.
I wish they would just give use one big license that covered everything from speckled corn carp to the HMS fishes and charger about 150 for it and be done. I have my noaa card, my hms, my dolphin wahoo, my bluefish (yes bluefish) permit, my guide license and about eight hundred pages of BS to fill out every night when we get in. It really sucks ass.
Oh and I Just got my renewal forms for my captains license. MORE SUCK ASS- thankfully my BMI is under 40, not by much, but still under.
The way I understand it in the rec category only the person named on the HMS permit is covered on the saltwater registry.
A lot of the tackle shops on the coast will have business cards distributed by the gubmint with the #. I grabbed a stack at sunset to keep on the boat.
