I want to officially welcome Buena Vista Sportfishing Lodge as the lead sponsor of the Circle Hook and Billfishing Forum. Buena Vista is located in the sailfish mecca of the world, Guatemala. I got a chance to experience the action and hospitality first hand this past March was truly impress with both the operation and fishing. Jodie and Monte have done an incredible job with their first class resort.
The resort is located on the banks of a river not too far from the ocean. You can actually hear the waves crashing from the poolside patio. Casa Amarilla is a beautiful lodge that accomodate all your needs.
The lodge has a handful of boats ranging from a 35 Bertram to a 30 foot custom center console.
Owners Jodie and Monte are both on hand owners and will personally see that every detail is taken care of at the lodge. Jodie is also the captain on the Monkey Business.
The fishing off the coast of Guatemala is nothing short of spectacular with an average day during the peak season of Jan-March seeing 20 sails per day conservatively. Marlin have made a strong showing in the last two seasons as well.
This is a great place to learn how to bait and switch billfish with circle hooks. The guys are all very willing to help teach how they rig the ballyhoo and set the spread and hook the fish. This is a hands-on operation that will allow you to do as much or as little of the work as you wish.
